Are yank movies hard to understand for brits?
I find I need to turn on subtitles for some brit movies (ex: LSATSB, Trainspotting, L4YERCAKE, etc.)
Are any US movies just as hard to understand for brits?
of course not. the difference is the rest of the world is subjected to american popular culture all the time, so we're used to it. btw, movies like trainspotting do include some very strong accents. even your southerners arent that hard to understand

no difficulties
i think is more difficult the other way around, since most of the "pop culture" references made in yanks movies are usually widespread and "global" to say the least, while the brit movies have all this obscure reference and dark humor making it more difficult not even to yanks for other countries too
nope. however i do flick on the subs when im watching some HK action film because im not familiar with some of the euphemisms/sayings.
english films arent all that hard to understand, unless its shakespeare or something
and american films are just teh funny
I watch BBC prime
My current fav is the Catherine Tate show.... I ... ain't .... bothered!
British 'american' restaurant:
American movies are real puzzlers. Not only do they touch on subjects so alien to other cultures, the symbolism contained in them makes you watch the movie at least 5 times before you understand it. Also the language is very confusing, due to the vast vocabulary the characters use.

When I started watching British movies and series years ago I had a really hard time at first not only because of the language but also all the cultural references. I know when I watch French Quebec stuff I have a heard time understanding some of the cultural references just because I don't know everything about the region. It's a different country, different language, it's obvious it's going to be hard for any outsider to get the whole thing 100% unless they know the whole culture. |

About the only US movies I've had trouble understanding at times where made by David Lynch, rest tend too be fairly regimented.
