Thumbs down Banks n their overdraft BS!!!!!

THEY JUST GOT $153.86 FREE!!!!

thing is, last sunday when i last used it, i checked the atm...had 15 something dollars in it...
in the club i purposely went over it, i didnt mind going over once cuz i know i was going to have a good time anyway...but that ended up kicking my ass!! cuz i was in the negative when i didnt know it ..STUPID ATMS tellin me i have cash!! ITS A CONSPIRACY!! *my fault i suppose*

i want to get rid of my atm now

and just cash my checks and use the moneys the old fashion way

/end rant

***The fee for overdrafts is $33 per transaction***for my bank that is

Its when you have non-sufficient funds...and when ur in the negative, and spend money...they charge u 33$ even if you buy a stick of gum..
lame!!!!

Posted by Frenchie on Oct-20-2006 22:02:

Overdraft?? Oh like that 1000$ or whatever that allows you to " borrow " money just incase you need it, but then once you put money in the bank it subtracts it?? I think I have that, but just never used it.

i know EXACTLY what you mean, that same shit happened to me this week. My bank statement said I had 5 dollars left in my balance, so I got 3 dollars in gas and something else that cost 75 cents. Each were two different transactions. The fee for overdrafts at my bank is 20 something dollars and I had to pay 55 dollars for those two purchases. Weak shit I tell you.

Posted by Ian on Oct-20-2006 22:13:

these fees are being challenged over here these days... They claim it's a paperwork charge, but can't prove it's costing 25 or so a time to do so, to the point that where most people challenge them & get rid of them as a rule. I try not to go overdrawn myself, I have an arranged overdraft of 10 (about 20 usd) and I like to stay in the positive side of 0 still, and i live on a very minimal budget (think once worked out i get in a year what Neo spends in 1 or 2 months)

Yeah... how dare they charge you for taking their money after you signed a contract that said youd agree to do such a thing should you ever overdraw.

you should try and remember when you use it as a debit or as a credit card. sometimes credit card purchases on a debit card take a few days to post, and ive screwed myself in the past because of this. now i try to not use my debit card as a credit card anymore, because if you use it as debit, it will take the money out right away and should show up on your balance immediately.

ahh never thought of that...good stuff thanks...ill keep it in mind

Posted by _Nut_ on Oct-20-2006 23:26:

use a credit union.

They transfer funds from my savings to checking if I 'overdraft' and never get charged.

btw. You should what you have and what you spend and know where you sit.

Its not the bank error that caused the overdraft, its called user error.

I don't understand, how people can't manage their own bank account, without hitting overdraft. Either, slow down on your spending, or manage your bank account and credit accordingly. It's not that hard.

Some bank's and/or ATMs can't take account for every transaction you make, until the next business day. It's not the ATM's (nor, the bank's) responsibility to monitor your finances. You have to learn, how to keep track of your finances a little better. I'm not bashing on you, but overdraft penalties are nothing to laugh about, when they'll cost you $30+/ea. transaction - this sets you back, even further. Chances are, you had a debit pending in your account from whenever, and finally went through, after you last checked the balance on the ATM.

The only way you're going to learn your lesson, is to request a bank statement, research it online, or wait 'til the monthly statement comes in the mail. Research all your transactions for the month, and figure out where you went wrong. Then, you'll be like, "Oooooooooooooooh shit, no wonder..."

oh yea, i forgot about that overdraft protection thing you can do, dont all banks do this though? only credit unions?

Not sure. Ive been with a credit union for the past 9 years. Only place that has a 3.9% return on savings. Can't beat that

Posted by A.J. on Oct-21-2006 03:33:

Credit Unions rule

My Credit Union charges me NO FEES WHATSOEVER. I can use any ATM i want and can use my Visa Debit Card pretty much anywhere, but i never have to pay fees.

I purposely chose not to get a credit card or an overdraft, so I can only spend the money that I have in my account.

P.S. I get 5.90% interest on my online savings account

hey do the work for bofa? man this shit happened to me to once i went over the limit by 1.12 cents and since i have a bofa credit card the "overdraft" comes from the cc not my savings account.that sucked because they withdraw in incraments of 50's and as a "cash advance" needless to say i went over the credit limit and they screwed me twice .next day i walk into the bank and close all my accounts with them f***king clowns
