Exclamation Review: Satoshi Tomiie @ Sonic

no review thread for this event yet, so i'm starting one..

i'll keep this short and sweet. mostly because i don't remember many of the fine details... feel free to elaborate if you were there.

my first time at sonic and i had a fun night. resident dj Sean Millers set was a great way to start the night. i'd describe it as techy prog house. this set got me pumped up for a night of dancing .. defiantly some great tunes here.

Satoshi's set started slow, and stayed that way for too long. his style is apparently supposed to be progressive but it didn't feel like the build-ups were leading to anything. a couple hours into the set though, it finally seemed like he was spinning harder and faster which got more people dancing. the party was kickin at this point of the night. those solid rolling and driving baselines sounded phenomenal on sonic's kickass sound system.

all in all the vibe was really good at this party. great crowd, lots of smiling faces. good to see ta's as always. definitely looking forward to my next time at sonic!

It's not even a matter of preference, I simply cannot wait until 6am for a party to start.

Glad to hear it was good times...

+1. Reason why I didn't go.

i think he shoulda started the night the way he played from 6 am on... it was a lot more upbeat, the crowd would have reacted to it better...

Sean Miller played fantastic.

Satoshie delivered ... even tho at certain times he was into his minimal stuff and i couldnt dance to it but it was still good. He made up nicely in the last hour and half.

Crowd to my surprise was super cool last night. Loved it. I brought couple of my friends there and it was their first Sonic night and they had a blast

Awesome seeing everyone there

Tara ... you are a sweetheart. Thankyou very much *hugz*

tomiie was absolutely brilliant, defin one of the top 3 parties i've been to this year.
went with a friend, both first timers @ sonic. The crowd we weren't too fond of...but we went for the music and we both had a great time.

i'll defin check out sonic again, but only for huge headliners.
on reg sat nights, i'll stick to the drink/gallery.

anyway, i got a paper due in the morning and im so out of it >_<

yea me neither. i have better things to do at 6am i.e. sleeping. considering, also, to pay $30 - which is the full price, mind you - on jeff's 'reduced' g-list is bollox. thanks again guy. good reason to 'manage' to miss satoshi again. BS.

agreed totally...
as a girl, sonic is an amazing after hours club.... never felt more at home going out.

^^^ well no kidding lolz ... its not girls that have to worry about getting grabbed and grinded by shirtless dudes. i beleive at one point i saw Brant walking with hands on his ass

nonetheless its still a rocking place and beats out majority of the clubs by far

Knowning now that Dannie AND Jay, along w/ habibi MissK and Nada went, (plus whoever else), I really kinda wish I'd gone!

It would have been a throw back to goot times when I first saw him at Boa... in Jan 05

Oh well, I guess ill be more rested now for next weekends wildness! still sad though

Well, I must say, I had an absolutely fantastic night. Sean's set was good. But Satoshi killed it. JAY....did we ever tear that shit up!!!

There were defnitely times of bordom, BUT he made up for it ten fold.

What was with the sketch thing Satoshi was doing with his hand for like 20mins...anyone else catch that?????

Nada= No show!!!!!!!
Betta have some good excuses bitch! wished you were there

Oh my dear...what a rediculous after party...thank you...Ray, Jeff, and Freaky T. on the decks from morning until night. *hugz*

beginning to end...most memorable **heart**

sean set it up well,
satoshi was too slow, chuggy, and mellow. Showed signs of really laying tracks out but didn't sustain it for long enough.

Crowd was good, but this was still my least favorite satoshi experience.

Thanks again jeff.

I loved the slow chuggy and mellow....PURE 'drugy' music.

Deep sound, deep down, deep impact. **heart**

But I do agree, it wasn't 'the party of the year'

check your facts before making statements like this.

reduced guestlist offers you $30 entry from 1am until 5am.

no guestlist means $30 before 2am, with the price going up to $40 afterwards.

thanks

*edit-this is the standard for 'BIG headliner nights', regular nights knock $10 off all prices.

its definitely nice once in awhile to not have to worry about getting grabbed by some guy...

though we do then have to look out for our fellow male ta's...

yeah i had to protect brant a few times from some very forward gentlemen....

Fair enough. Musically, not my cup of tea, but as always sonic never provides a bad night out.

last time at chus and ceballos it was ridiculous
someone was standing right behind me, i didnt mind it because i was dancing and i didnt give a shit. A few min later he grabs my fucking ass, i turn around and i thought it was someone else so i didnt say anything but then he does it again
i turned to him and i told him to back the fuck off or i will fucking knock him, he appologized and moved. Happened again few hours later with someone else... good thing i was with a bunch of other girls so it was a good "shield".

when i went to victore calderone the same thing happend to me.. but i went there only me and my gf so i could only be protected from one side, i had to use all the strategic positions in the club to stay protected; the wall, the speaker, girls behind u ... i was so damn peranoid that time. I have been back to sonic since and was not bothered at all... Sean Miller nights FTW
