organizing cds

Hello..

I dont like organizing cds, but I have a preformance soon so Im somehow forced to organize them.

I need to create a list of audio files (with cd name, track number and length) and print them on the cd-cover size to put them in my cd bag in front of cd.. I wonder what program should I use? I dont like nero.

I was thinking of putting the BPM with the track info, but I guess it would take too much work? Is it worth doing that?

Whats your way of organizing cds?

THere are djs who are mega organized, and djs who are NOT. Do what works for you- if you just need tune names, use a pen and paper like I do, if u want to get complex, id suggest doing printouts from your cpu-

I sort mine by key, for some reason I remember and organise tracks better when they are with similar sounding tracks. It has also help me develop my pitch recognition skills so I don't necessarily have to key a track using an instrument.

Try to sort them by BPM or style. That will be easiest, or just alphabethically. Like others have said, whatever works for you. If you have a lot of two different styles, bring two cases, one with one style, and the other with another. I have one case of epic trance, and the other of progressive house and trance. Or just one small case, and play around before hand, put them in order of how you practiced before hand, and then mix it up with some stuff you can improvise with, but know will work. So it's kind of pre-programming, but also giving you room to experiment and read the crowd. Just makes it easier to have some idea what direction your set is going intially, like I said, it will change up based on the venue, the crowd, whatever it is.

I am still learning the concepts of harmonic mixing, but when i feel ready enough to play my sets entirely based on harmonic mixing, arranging the cds by key would definately be the way to go. Right now My cds are arranged in quite a haphazard manner, which sometimes screws me over when im looking for a certain track in crunch time and i lose precious beatmatching time flipping through my cd wallet.

I don't organize by genre, because I don't spin genre's I spin dance music. Whenever there are new tunes, I make a new CD and give it a number. Usually im pretty good at remembering what track is where. Just the way my brain works.

In time I may need to make a separate section for lounge esque music.

What program should I use for printing cd track names?

Nero. It works brilliant for me... When I've burned the CD I just run Nero's Coverdesign and Voil! A piece of cake and the results is great.

I just use a simple text editor, maybe a word processor to make sure things are within a certain margin.

Most of the time, I just write it on the CD itself, but I'm thinking about printing CD contents on paper to slip them behind each slot in my CD binder (so I know where each one goes, or can check the bpm/key if the CD is being played).
