Angry :WTF: Streak of bad luck....

If life is a barrell of tar and honey, I just hit the deepest layer of tar so far. So, here's my luck thus far:

1. I am due to start a job in a company I used to work for. Hiring manager is a good friend of mine, I'm as good as sho-in. Friday before starting it, I'm supposed to have an informal conversation with the director and I'm set to go. That goes well. After that interview, I get a call from a recruiting company that sent me there - I'm NOT STARTING A JOB. Apparently my old manager at the company decided to bad mouth me (he's a well-known dick who hates when people leave their slave posts after they're tired of dealing with his bullshit). So, I'm jobless.

2. My failed Airconditioning/Heating unit needs to be replaced. I hire a contractor on my friend's recommendation. The contractor takes the money for the unit $3,600 and vanishes. Empty promisses to finish the job are - well... empty. I have to file a lawsuit to get my money back.

3. Two months of (unpaid) unemployment pass, I finally manage to get another job offer. This one is a contract that's supposed to run for a minimum of 3 months but last contractor worked there for a year. I work there for a month - it's a shitty job but I shut up and bear it. After a month, my manager tells me that budgeting for my work fell through for this year and they can't afford to keep me. I'm out of work only a month after starting.

4. Due to financial holes that I dug myself into while unemployed, I now have to sell most of my studio gear (various synths, etc.).

5. I have a fight with my wife over something as stupid as.... RELIGION... that looks like it may end our marriage. Luckily we find a middle ground and work that shit out but damage was pretty bad. Her family and my family are now not talking to each other.

6. My most prized (and extremely rare) synth, Jupiter 8, which I must sell as it will fetch most money decides to break. Repairs (if possible) would probably cost about $500, making it financially unfeasible to sell it, as I would probably have to sell it for substantially less than what I paid for it.

7. Another synth I sold earlier arrives dead to the buyer and I have to refund his money. Not mentioning I'm already out of $50 on shipping, plus failed attempt to repair it.

8. Last friday, after strong winds and rain, a tree branch falls on our new car (2006 Acura, with less than 6000 miles on it) - about $2000 of damage. Covered by insurance, less $500 deductible but still a bummer.

and if that wasn't enough... While biting into a piece of ice last night, I broke my tooth. :

What the fuck do I do to stop this friggin streak of bad luck???

Fucking depressing. Go somewhere far away and start over again. Your current life is broken.

I seriously thought about it. But where? It'd be nice to get away somewhere else but if I did move it'd be outside of US - and there you have to deal with loads of other issues, thereby complicating an already difficult situation.

That's not really the best thing imo.

You just gotta ride the storm. No rainbow without the rain etc.

Everyone has some really rough patches life, but you just gotta hang on in there, 'cos no matter how long it takes you to get through, once you do, you're a better / stronger person for it. Live to fight another day.

It'll pass, no matter how crap things get.

I used to think that how nice it'd be to get away to EU - better education, calmer lifestyle, more civilized, plus good footie (that you don't have to pay extra for to see on telly)... only to find out that EU is not any safer than US, has its share of crazy people, nearly impossible immigration/work visa rules, tough job market, plus an obvious language barrier in many parts.

Tho, if I was single - I'd definitely do it in a heartbeat. If for nothing else, just to experience different lifestyles/cultures/etc.

Man, when I said "go somewhere far away," believe me, I meant it. Sure, "What doesn't kill you can only make you stronger," but there has to be a point where you realize that it's not doing you any good to continue going the same path in your life?

If I was in your shoes, this would be the time when I started making major changes to my life. Reading all those things depressed me, because it's likely that I might go down a worse path soon (long story). It was quite a sobering read. I feel sorry for you...

Heh... This seems to be quickly-developing into "An Official TA Group Therapy Thread" - you might as well spill it.

p.s. DID YOU KNOW THAT ONLY TODAY YOU CAN SHARE YOUR WOES IN CAPS?

Srsly, whatever it is - hope it gets sorted out for ya (in a good way). having bad luck sucks. having shit happen to you when you see it happening ahead of time is not bad luck - it's a friggin freight train bearing down on ya, so I think I know how you must feel. I'm not even mentioning other little problems like house falling apart and needing repairs, which we can't afford, outstanding medical/tax bills, etc. Like everything IS falling apart and signs are EVERYWHERE to precisely GTFO and start new life somewhere else. So, some hard decisions are up ahead.

Don't you have to speak French? I also hear IT market is rough in CA. Worked with number of Canadians who had to work in US, as they couldn't get decent IT jobs in Canada.

Actually yes, in Montreal depending on what field you may need french, depends if you can line up a job beforehand. I don't know much about IT jobs, and even less about IT jobs in canada, but if you want to fuck it all and start over, Montreal is (I believe) the cheapest city in non-mexican north america!

Don't know about work permits either.. one thing ill pretty much never have to worry about- shitty situation though man, it would be damn hard to get me to sell my gear...
