Do Not Know Were To Begin!

I am planning on starting to DJ but the only problem is I cannot buy a whole set-up at once. I am looking to get CDJ-200 some headphones and a mixer like the Numark DXM06. Can anyone describe me my options which i can take for example if i get (1) CDJ-200 a mixer and headphones, but i wont be able to get the 2nd CDJ-200 until like Christmas.

I heard that I can first buy a mixer and use it with Virtual DJ. But Will i need a soundcard? If i will will this do? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16829102163

Thanks

yes, you would need a soundcard with 2 outputs (one to each channel naturally). buying the mixer first would be your best choice i think.

when i started i bought my first cdj-100 almost a year before i got my second cdj-100 and a mixer. i had some crappy headphones which i used then for djing. thank god the broke so i was forced to buy better ones.
anyway i can't say the single cdj was much fun, but then i wasn't interested in mixing with the computer at all, so i bought my first cdj as soon as i could and then when i could afford it i bought the rest of my stuff. i had also bought cds for a couple years, had around 200 to 300 at the time i think.

edit:
oh and xmas is like 2 months away, so it doesn't really matter what you buy first IMO. i waited well over 2 years to get my gear after i had decided that that was what i wanted. 2 months is nothing.

sorry, can't help you with the mixer as i have a rather abnormal taste in mixers as i don't want the eq changes to be heard on the headphones when cueing a channel. i got the djm-300s when i started, but i hated it and got a vestax pcv-175 with the rotary kit and i love it. pretty much the only mixer i'd get over it is the allen & heath xone:92 rotary, but that's way too pricey for me.

but for the cdjs, i personally wouldn't recommend anything other than the cdj-200s even though i've never used them, but they're quite similar to the cdj-100s, but better.

Yea i remember someone recommending this to me before. But the thing is that i would love to use a mixer for some time and then get cdj's later and not just throw out 250$ for the Hercules DJ console and then having to buy another mixer and cdj's which i plan on doing

With the hercules 2 you can plug in cd players or turntables. If don't mind djin with a laptop it's perfect.

But it's cheap and toy-like, I mean it's fun and fine for some people...

But if he wants to use real decks and really get serious, it'll just be a waste of money.

Don't buy cheap gear, or you'll buy twice. I did it.

If you really want to jump into this whole thing, get a decent mixer first... maybe the DJM-400 (maybe a little too expensive?).

If you've got a PC near your DJ setup or a laptop, you could then look into getting the Torq package. (available for $199-249 apparantly). This will give you a full software package that you can use to DJ with using the mixer, as well as a two stereo output soundcard.

And when you finally can afford some CDJ's, you'll still be able to use everything.

If you wind up with a DJM-400, 2 CDJ-200's, Torq, and a Midi controller (like a trigger finger), you'll have one heck of a setup in time!

Well i guess i can pretty much get a used djm-400 but i will be stuck with shitty headphones for a while

Do they HAVE used DJM-400's? It's a pretty new mixer

Don't forget to ask around for pricing as well... agiprodj.com usually has some of the best prices, so check them out.

like i said would i be able to actually use the mixer and the Torq package without the CDJ-200's?

Posted by Ryan0751 on Oct-25-2006 11:17:

Yup! It works kinda like tracktor if you don't have decks.

But you'll be able to use it with the timecode CD decks when you get those as well.

Just buy the DXM-06 -- it's fine for what you need. I bought mine for $200 at Guitar Center. For the difference in price between that and the DJM-400 you could almost get another CDJ200.
