Sony Reports Q2 Earnings Down 94 Percent From Year Prior
Holy shit...I guess they're really in the hole now with all those battery recalls, PS3 delays and etc...
Hopefully it doesn't affect the PS3 release and production otherwise Sony's dead in the water.

94%?! Jesus christ!
Someone's doing something right.
Thank god. Sony has had its head up its own ass far too long. They have to realise that outside of the Japaneese market, people are not as willing to swallow what they dish out. ![]()
On a side note: I was at the Sony Store last week(eaton center), and walked by their speaker section. I listen to the tune, hey its "Total black out", hey its a set by Oakenfold.
The interesting part was, they were playing a low bitrate stream of 32Kbps over their high end equipment. All you can hear is encoding artifacts, and nasty compression sounds. Good job idiots, show off your speakers with the shittiest source recording you could find! Just goes to show Sony's attitude comes through in every step they take; buy it because we make it.

They make totally awesome cameras and TVs though, you gotta give them that.
Also, I think everybody with their head on straight this holiday season will go with the Wii60 kinda thing over a PS3.
Both systems for the price of a single PS3. Glorious.

| Sony battery emits sparks during recall 2 hours, 55 minutes ago TOKYO - A Sony-made battery used in a Fujitsu laptop computer overheated and emitted sparks, Fujitsu said Friday, amid a massive global recall involving Sony batteries. A Fujitsu worker was visiting a customer's home to retrieve the laptop as part of the company's recall of Sony batteries when it overheated and started giving off sparks, according to Fujitsu spokesman Toshiaki Koike. No one was injured in the incident, which is under investigation, Koike said. Fujitsu is recalling more than 280,000 lithium-ion laptop batteries made by Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE - news). because they pose a risk of overheating and bursting into flames. Sony officials have said the problems were caused by microscopic metal particles left inside the battery, which can cause them to short circuit. Almost every major laptop maker in the world, including Dell Inc., Apple Computer Inc. and Lenovo, has announced recalls of Sony lithium-ion batteries. |

| However, despite the jump in sales, the Home & Entertainment division once again lost money--a lot of money. It posted an operating loss of $414 million for the quarter, a 106 percent increase from the previous year. The biggest reason for the increase is the fact that, as Microsoft admits, it loses a significant amount of money on each Xbox 360 sold. |

This is all due to the battery recall. Less the batter recall Sony is in good financial health.
