Need help with a Phone

i have a phone (nokia 6265i) that came to me under dubious circumstances. when i turn on the phone, it says "phone restricted" and asks for a restriction code.

is this a regular keypad lock? or was this phone somehow remotely locked by the previous owner?

more importantly, how can i get this opened so i can unlock and use the phone

any suggestions other then trying all the number combinations possible

Try unlocking it by entering the last four digits of the mobile number?

Most likely you just had your number changed or something else changed on the account and the phone got reprogramed while you were on the phone with telus.

Try the last 4 digits of your phone number.

the phone isn't mine. and i can't really ask the owner for the number (hence the dubious circumstances)

think a shop can unlock it?

omg, great thread spitty hahahaha

sorry, no advice, i dont use cellphones.

because the phone was stolen, don't quote me, but you may not be able to use it. Sometimes when someone's phone is stolen, they call it in, and the serial number of that phone is put on the database as stolen and can not be used. Maybe unlocking it can change this but I'm not sure.

HAHA! Seriously, I love my phone and I'll keep it until it is completely dead.

6265i... Telus... You're pretty much screwed.. Lets say you got it unlocked, you still couldn't activate it if it was reported stolen. I am not sure if you can change the ESN on the phone, I am sure there is a way, but it would have to be of another Telus phone. It does have a slot similar to a SIM, however it is not one, and is not in use as of yet since it is a CDMA phone (not GSM). Your best bet is to sell it on ebay or something to someone in the states, they can unlock it and activate it on a US provider. Sorry man.

All depends on the make / model / provider.

PM me if you want

Posted by dEsidEL on Oct-27-2006 02:08:

well if it's a CDMA phone, which it is.. someone (likely the previous owner) may have gotten the ESN # blocked, especially if it was lost/stolen and then resold. An ESN # is like a VIN # for your car. Each phone has one that uniquely identifies it from another. If you're on a provider like Telus or Bell that uses a CDMA network, when a phone changes owners, the provider reassigns the phone number to the ESN # of that phone. you'd hafta find someone or someplace that can reprogram the ESN # on the phone so that you can use it again. I'm not too certain how exactly this is done, but it sounds like that's your problem.

Either that or the keylock is on and wells.. let's not go there heh

on another note.. check out www.howardforums.com for good info on this

ps. go GSM!!

confusing i know

hey, can i have your phone number

Posted by nusty on Oct-27-2006 03:19:

ummmm. stealing/supporting stealing is wrong. but besides that(I know you didn't come here for a lecture, you're obviously cool with it)... just be careful.

I know that I have reported every phone I lost or was stolen. That way if anyone ever tried to activate it again I would have the satifaction of having them in the hot seat trying to explain how they came across stolen property.
