Crazy EQ settings
Being an experimentalist, I like to try all sorts of EQ settings on different sounds, add effects to them, and see what I can make of them. Here are some effects you can do with a basic 32-band EQ, reverb, and distortion:
"Old recording" kind of effect - Played at half speed, reverb on the guitar, took out almost all the bands but the mids, left a couple highs in. (Original sound, also used for the next two).
Weird-sounding - Took out everything but a couple mid bands, then distorted the whole thing.
Similar - First the "normal" sound, then four mid bands playing by themselves, then down to one band with distortion added, then two bands, three, and four.
"Breathing" synth sound - If you can get just the right EQ settings on a harmonically rich sound like a "supersaw," it will start to sound like it's "breathing."
Spacey EQ effect on a synth - What you do for this one is take a harmonically rich sound and raise and lower individual bands of your EQ for the length of a sixteenth or eighth note at intervals of your choice. Put some delay and reverb at the end and you have the effect.
Do you guys use EQ as a transformative "effect" as well as a way to polish your sound?
Personally, I don't like the unnatural sound of too much EQ'ing. So I like to use it as little as possible.
i like that breathing sound...reminds me of an ethnic sort of track with some wild jungle percs.
when it comes to bass lines and what not eqing is the way to go sometimes depending on the style or the structure of the track you can get some surprising results that will be astounding
I think these demos are way past your regular equalizing usage, guys....
I loved those sounds man! really organic and strange, really inspired me to think differently of my EQ
Were you using a plugin? what plugin do you use for eq-ing? (I've never found an eq with over 16 bands...)
there's this program from U-he called Filterscape that has LFOs and other knobs and filters to create some crazy automated eq settings.
Check out the features page here
This effects plugin can do some WILD things so go get it!
That plug-in does look cool, Lindo. I don't have the money for it right now, but I may get it in the future.

i eq almost every single sound in my tracks seperately.....best way of filling the spectrum properly.
first sample is pretty cool
