Question Progressive and Trance producers who have gone Techno?

Aside from Lieb with his Solieb project, who are some progressive or trance producers that have turned to techno in the past few years?

I don't mean "Frankfurt school" trance producers who turned to techno in the mid-90s, like Sven Vth or Hardfloor; I mean producers that have gone toward techno since 2000.

lieb never went into techno. he was making techno from day one. even when he was releasing trance tracks he released techno on various other monikers.

but, ye, Marco Bailey & Marco Zaffrano
both released trance before, then around 96-98 they both went into techno

also, Eric Sneo, mijk van dijk

I'm aware of this. But I mean as the dominant production style. Few would peg Lieb of 2000 as, first and foremost, a techno producer. He was best known for his tech-trance and trance, and he produced more of it than techno.

All these guys switched over earlier than I'm talking about. I mean former trance or progressive producers who stuck with their genre following 1999.

Progressive has seen boatloads of producers going into house, for example. But I'm curious about techno.

Pig & Dan might be a better example than Lieb. They started out mainly in progressive house, but have since moved toward Cocoon-style techno.

Cosmicman, big change what he used to do before. First more prog, now I've heard techno tracks from him as well. He's very good producer though, I like a lot his new style.

Lieb has always produced Techno. At times its more melodic than most techno but I would never say he's produced a pure trance track.

Um.... WHAT!?

Anyhow, Pascal F.E.O.S. springs to mind, but then I'm not entirely sure of his discography beyond Resistance D material prior to these last couple years, so I could be way off on that one.

f.e.o.s. went almost "pure techno" before 2000, i think even like 97-98

James Holden is one that springs to mind.

Well, if we're talking predominantly, Picotto was a trance producer up until about 2002. He did have some techno/tech trance out prior to The Others, but now the shift is much more obvious. You can still catch traces of his trance sound in some of his techno tracks.

Posted by basd on Oct-30-2006 21:37:

* Marco Bailey is probably the best example.

* Some people see trance influences in Carl Cox's 1996 release "Two paintings and a drum", and, to lesser extent, in "Phuture 2000" from 1999.

* Gayle San's first EP was a trance EP.

The other way round:

* Ferry Corsten produced (aside from his hardcore past) some techno tracks.

* The first release from Solid Sessions (from "Janeiro") was a techno track, and in fact, he's mixed one of my personal favourite tech-house / techno mixes, "Visions".

Andreas Krmer did a lot of (hard) trance indeed (Russenmafia, Schwarze Puppen, Junk Project, etc.), before (and aside from) his techno projects.

Andreas Kremer, however, only dabbled in some trip-hoppish stuff, besides his techno productions.

There's a difference.

No, I disagree Lieb has never produced a pure trance track.

As far as I know they're both German, and I'm pretty sure they both do not live at Tresor. Because it's a club. And a closed one at that.

Define "pure trance".

Ehm, check out his productions under the name of Airborne, Paragliders, L.S.G (especially the earlier stuff), some of the SpiceLab tracks.

But he has always been dabbling in techno style stuff as well, at least since his Ambush days in the very early 90s.

Naah, wouldn't say so. His older stuff varies in different trance allright but his recent material is more in the prog psy / psy prog (which ever it is) area.

Posted by montana on Nov-02-2006 11:46:

Adam Beyer, Peter Benisch, Cari Lekebusch & Jesper Dahlbcks, earliest output was fast acidy trance.

but all four went into techno quite early tho, i think around 96/97
