What is the best studio headphone? Neighbors complaining.....

Well, today i received my final warning from my apartment manager threatening to kick me out if i make any more noise. This really sucks because i even acousticaly treated my room and everything but i cant make any more noise. My question is what is the best /most accurate sounding studio headphones available? Money is not an isssue because I am pretty much going to sell my moniters since i cannot use them anymore. I am looking for headphones that are flat and have very accurate response. Something compared to a mackie hr 824 studio moniter but a headphone would be great. The mackie hr 824s translate perfect to any system so if you have a great mix on it, you know that if you take it to a night club or whereever, it will sound the same. Please recommend me some top notch studio headphones that is like this... something very accurate.

The ones I have seen recommended most often in the past are the Sony MDR-7506 and the Sennheiser HD 25. The Technics RP DJ-1200 and Pioneer HDJ-1000 also both get at least a few recommendations whenever this topic comes up.

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD-280s and I'm pretty happy with them.

How about the Audio-Technica ATH-W1000 Headphones or dt 770s?

anyone use these before?

AKG 271s

240s are okay.

271s = awesome great sound isolation (you can use them even when your neighbors are yelling about something else other than your loud music.)

they are pro

well after much researching, i finally decided on headphones made by a fairly new company called ultrasone. I picked up the pro line 650s however i will be returning them for the 750s. These headphones have some great features that allow you to hear the 3d image just like moniters and also have a shield to protect your hearing making it safer. I didnt know about this brand until the salesman told me about them.

A loudness curve means the boost lows and highs by a few dB to make you percieve loudeness. And 3d sound is dependant on a sound card that can generate it. Any decent pair of headphones can have "3d sound" in them.

So yea. Becareful of buying something based souly on marketing ooolalas.

yea def , good looking out bro. I actually listened to them live so they really did sound like listening to moniters.

I may be crazy but i am thinking about getting beyer dt 990s for the sweet bass , and akg 240s for that flat you can hear what is wrong as well!

this way i think i will never need moniters ever again

haha i bought a pair of koss noise canceling ones for about 35bones and by far my favorite pair ive used for anything on a computer haha given they dont have the clarity at high volumes as some of the sony mdr series but i must say for 30bones impressive..... hahaha not exactly what you were after but just a poke at some humour

Yeah, hd 280 pro are pretty decent, maybe not the very best on the market but hard to beat price/quality-wise.

P.S. No matter how good the headphones you will ALWAYS need to reference your mix on monitors..Its really hard to get the levels right on headphones, especially the low end..

just be cautious when producing with headphones. I think someone on the forums has gotten an ear infection from wearing it too much and the doc said that your ears need air or something. also, always pounding the volume wouldn't be the best idea...although it sounds great . other than that, happy producing.

I use Audio Technica ATH-M40/s. They have a wide frequency range, 5-2800 Khz. If you're on a budget they will serve you well. I plan to eventually move up to AKG's or something else is the highend range.

Just remember to keep headphones at a comfortable volume level so you don't damage your ears. There's no need to blast them when mixing tracks.

Id go for akgs or beyerdynamics, 240s or dt 250 dt250 is pretty neutral in the sound its not so good in the very lows, but I use them and they do the job. then if you feel exclusive you could go for the 770s ultrasone is new but I dont know If they are quality since the 240s and the dt250s are used in every studio ive been working in. but hey Id say go and listen to them.

hmmm akg 271s better than the akg 240s?

Open or semi-open headphones are generally better than closed. I don't know if that's the case with the k240 and k271.
