who in your opinion produces the best trance? Speceificly speaking more progressive styles?

Steve Helstrip (I mean, come on. This guy has made so many beautiful tunes, under so many monnikers)
Chicane
Mark Otten
Smith & Pledger

I bet there are more, but to me these really stand out of the crowd.

History-wise it's probably Oliver Lieb, BT, James Holden.. in that order.

Nowadays there really aren't any outstanding trance producers left.
