School for Production

wasn't there a school that opened in the Netherlands, run by well known producers for music production? I've been screwed by a couple schools in the NE and need to get out of here as it is, can't remember what this place was called though. anyone help me out?

look at SAE institute in NYC, offers Electronic Music Production and Audio Engineering along with lots of other options. It's where im going next year.

I really don't see why anyone would want to waste their money and time on something like that. There are tutorials online for just about everything even remotely related to music. And the rest... well... it just cannot be taught.

Don't forget though that this is a 4 year study (Higher Education/University)
and requires you that you have the appropriate certificates/diploma's to be considered.
You can't just sign-up for it like you can for SAE and give them your money for a small course.
Then there is a selection-procedure based on some criteria,
cause every year they can only accept about 30 or so new students for the WHOLE school.
As you might have noticed they cover more than only the dj/dance producer course.
Meaning: only 4 or 5 students for dj/dance producer course are accepted every year.
Think they get quite some applications for those, and can imagine the competition being very heavy to earn a spot.

Anyway, listen to what Mr. Mystery says.
Overall he has some good guidelines for life .

you don't need school, just practice and lots of reading!

all you need is the tools.

you can also get internships easily at recording studios!

I was reading a post by a sound engineering guy and he says that many of the schools are a waist of money. He even said that many self-taught people do as good or just as better than those who went to school.

forget audio engineering just go to berklee college in california and get a real degree in music.

Berkley's a bit out of my price range. :P

I've been learning all I can on my own, but without either massive funds for my own equipment or access to a good studio, it's hard to do everything off of books and self-teaching. having already wasted about $20k on schools, I almost just want to get my money's worth for a piece of paper, maybe just in philosophy or business, and self-teach all the production stuff and build what studio I can.

as for internships, there's probably two studios in my vicinity, one sucks, and one doesn't return my calls. and I know I've got what it takes to bring something new to the table as sound and whatnot goes, even if I have been out of the loop for a couple years. with the correct knowledge of how to change methods of thinking, which I'm becoming more enlightened on, talents are all in your head.

I've been to school a few times, for computer programming though, not music. I owe lots of money now.

Looking back, I essentially taught myself everything while I was at school anyway, and no one gives a shit about my diplomas. The only good aspect was that the school's deadlines forced me to complete things.

My advice is that if it is possible to teach something to yourself, you should really just try that first, it'll save you a lot of money.

This obviously isn't going to work if you want to be a doctor or an architect, but programming and music, sure.
