Love is in the air REVIEW: The Blu Experience @ CoZo/Sasha's Birthday!

Mona, Dima and I arrived at around noon. We spent last night at the zone and somewhat popped our cherries at that time. Look at it kinda like anal sex. You do it, but it's not the real thing...today was the real thing . We went to my house for some sleep, and then headed back into sketchville a few hours later to celebrate with Sasha. I must say that it was an awesome morning. It was nice to see everybody, and to meet some new TAs as well. To be honest, I was really afraid to go to the Zone because of stories that people told me. I thought it was going to be extremely dodgy, but I was happily surprised as soon as I entered the building. The sound system there is fucking wikkid.

Happy birthday Sasha!!!!!!!

*MUAHZERZ*

Nice to finally meet you Sasha. Hopefully you got home safely and weren't killed by Geli. I was scared just getting dropped off at Yonge haha.

It was also nice to meet some of the other TAs. Sorry if I forgot your names...It was kind of loud in there!

Had a blast though. Happy bday.

haha w00t

1st time at zone, and wow wasnt as bad as i thought. Really like the darkness, aweasome sound system, bar upstairs was pretty cool too its nice to hear the music there/chill out with a beer.

couple of sketches in the crowd, especially azn buddy with white shirt with circles, bitchass but mostly every1 was cool. Enough room to dance always which was great

sydney also droped some bombs, im not a fan of house but hey she knows how to bump that shit to the max.

good times

Good to see that Sasha's still alive

j/k haha.

But yeah, it wasn't as sketchy as people made it out to be. Maybe it was because the TAs took over the place, or we all just got lucky. But definitely had a great time. Would go back to the Zone anyday!

Considering the only TAs to go to Tech Itch also went to Sydney Blu, I'll consolidate the reviews for both events into one:

TECHNICAL.ITCH:
WOOOOW. Got in at 12, and the party was already rocking. D-Syfa vs. Illfingas played some tiiiiight shit. Layering like 3 tracks over one another...puuure instanity.

Then Technical Itch ripped the place apart. Track of the whole night was definitely 'Dylan & Limewax - Cleansed By A Nightmare'. He must have mixed that track in like 5 times, and the crowd went nuts for it every time. Ohhh man, it was just so banging and dark. Honestly, Abstract, you guys rock (and I want your fucking T-shirt). This event was the pinnacle of DNB for me. This was right up there with the Pendulum and Andy C sets that I've seen. Sometimes he got too industrial, but other times the basslines were just PURE HARD SEX. I just wish Mark got more into his sets - if he would have been rocking out behind the decks, and not just be a DNB version of Digweed, the energy in that room would have been even more insane. But I guess the tradeoff was that his mixing and distortions were all completely on point and nicely polished. some tracks I remember:
Dylan & Limewax - Cleansed By A Nightmare
Vicious Circle - Welcome to Shanktown
Technical Itch - Death Jazz
Technical Itch - Retribution

Capital J started off really strong too, but his set lacked the heavy bass of Tech Itch, plus we had to leave to get rest for the morning.

And HOLY VIRGIN MARY that sound system. WOOOOWWW I've never heard DNB hit me so hard yet be so crisp. And the lack of lights just felt so right for the music that was being played. I had beyond a wicked time. MORE DNB AT COZO PLEEEAASSEEE.

One note: the crowd. Wasn't really sketchy at all, but there were a lot of young girls there. Like 15 years old. I was really surprised. All Ages usually don't bring THAT MANY kids out. But I dunno, everybody was just rocking out, it wasn't too packed, and I had no problems with anyone.

One more note: they didn't search us at all on the way in, and CAMERAS WERE ALLOWED. I saw a few people taking pics. Weird.

SYDNEY.BLU:
It's hard to say where I stand on how good it was musically. It was moving me, but the House builds just don't do anything for me, not like the DNB or Trance builds do. Music was good, but nothing made me go, "Oh shiit I'm going to lose my mind now". It was just fun dancing along with everyone.

Speaking of which, CoZo is terrible for meet & greets, because you have no idea who you're greeting until you hear their voice. English Rachel got it the worst I think. It slipped my mind that you'd be there, so when I see some blonde girl run towards me and give me a huge hug, I turned to Sasha, and gave him this look that said "Who the fuck is this girl?". But it's all good we got it sorted out. It was awesome hanging out with you all. Too many people to name, so I won't bother.

Oh, and it was a lot more sketch at Sydney than it was at Tech Itch. In the 2 hours I was there, I ran into a lot more sketchies than I did the whole time I was there for DNB. And it was a lot more packed and stuffy.

I had an awesome time at both, but the DNB was far better all around. CoZo is a wicked club, and a lot of the stuff I've heard about it is a bit exaggerated. I just wish they'd play my kind of music there more often.

P.S. I don't want to take off both my CZ wristbands. The two of them together on my arm feel like a medal of valor or something, lol.

It wasn't too packed or sketchy, but for some apparent reason, I could not enjoy myself as much as I could...there was definately a lack of dancing from me..don't handle heat very well. Tunes were good; typical Sydney set I could ID half of them, but there's really no need, so I'll just mention the 2 that were memorable to hear...

Amo And Navas Vs. D Nox And Beckers - Memory Cell

one of my fav tunes of the moment, one of the first tunes I heard, and first time hearing it live

Jerry Ropero And Denis The Menace - Fuck U (La Grande Salope Mix)

One of Blu's trademark tracks...hadn't heard it in a loooooong times. Brought back some memories from the first time I heard it at System Soundbar. LOL @ me, coming from outside, kind of blind, screaming out fuck u as I pass by...and some girl saying fuck u back to me. As I took a closer look it was Jenners! Bwahaha. <3

Had fun with everyone, but sorry for my lack of enthusiasm! Whoever went on after Blu was playing some weird ass disco inspired stuff...had my ass shaking old skool for a while!...until everyone left, and I could deal with the sketchiness no longer...Some woman asked me if I saw her grandmother! WTF...That was my cue to leave..actually more like run. lol. This was a reunion of sorts for many bitches I had not seen in a while. YOU know who you are! <3 Happy Sketchified Cheesilicious Blu Bday to Sashaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

EDIT: Nice meeting miss Jello, Jelly, Gelly, lol and Disco Biscuit.

LOVE this track!!! When was it played? And why/how did I miss it?

Jester

awesome times

i'm still 70% deaf, cos the sound system just rocked MY JEANS OFF!!
Happy Birthday Sasha, once again

Nice meetin' ya, Rachel, <3!! thank you so much for making sure my cherry popping was uber smooth you rock! such a great gal keep it up!

i was pleasantly surprised by the fact how exaggerated ppl make this place sound, i thought the level of sketchiness was hardly higher then Guv main room - same amount of weirdo asians, shirtless dudes (my fave car wash crew excluded ), etc... basically nothing scary or out of ordinary

amazing dance off's with Jaxxy, Cribbster we kinda had them finally Nada, you are the star of the dancefloor as per usual, ppl just stop and watch you rip it apart

looking forward to come back to CZ! hopefully for another d'n'b event! i really need more d'n'b in my system

omg...my body is hurting! but it was my pleasure ms. funky...and dancing with the b-day boy ( ...kidding ), dannie, jay (<3<3), cribbs (fumasaaaaaa!), the two jenns (), nada ( ), and dancing/meeting/chilling with a whole shitload of TAs and non-TAs =

However, I did feel apprehensive when this short asian dude kept following me around ...haha...

But holy !@$# that was some syd blu set...one of her more versatile sets I've heard...from prog house to tribal to electro to techno to some crazy mash-up of some tune with a rock feel...just wow Aside from the blooper sometime later in her set and some technical difficulties...she dropped a wicked set...and hence my body has been completely destroyed as a result

To the cozo virgins...I'm glad you guys had a wicked time...we should definitely hit that place up more often...despite the darkness of the place (you never know whether you're going to get elbowed in the face out of nowhere, bump into a wall or some random person)the vibe is totally awesome...and the sound is heavenly...

Speaking of sound I think I'm going to start wearing earplugs (like Jamie's) b/c I'm starting to lose my hearing...

btw - sorry Rachel and Ann for not coming out to eat afterwards...I seriously needed a nap...haha

SCARY INDEED!

Posted by magikb on Nov-06-2006 01:52:

alright, so after not being able to sleep last night. I finally got to bed at 2am. I had 2 alarm clocks set for 6am and one shortly after 6 to make sure that my ass was up and out of bed. I got my first call from Miss. Nada at 6:05am,

"Guess what time it is? Time for you to get up bitch!" LOL
followed by a "awww, I feel really bad waking you up, you sound like you need more sleep" hahahahah.

Anyhow, I was up and out the door by 7am as planned and grabbed some coffee and Jenn on the way and was at Starbucks at Ali's by 8:15 this morning. Then I was ready to go. I was nice and awake and ready to dance up a storm.

Sydney Blu did an amazing job with the beats this morning. It was just what I needed to get me going. By the time Noon rolled around I thought I was gonna die. The heat was getting to me and my legs just didn't wanna move any more. I managed to take a couple breaks but was back out on the floor once again to bust a move. Around 1:30pm though, all hell broke loose for me when Thunderstruck was played I know everyone else LOVES that tune, but I hated the original and I don't like the remix. But other than that 1 song, I have no other complaints

It was great to see everyone out this morning as well no matter what time you arrived at. We definitely tore it up at CoZo and not that I could do this every weekend, but it was nice to go there after a good nights sleep and some energy to boot. You guys are all troopers and I loved every minute of it And I almost forgot. My official introduction to English Rachel It was a pleasure meeting you.

And like I told Mr. Birthday Boy Sashka, I wouldn't have gotten out of bed at 6am for just any body. I am glad you had such a fabulous time. You were so excited and I am happy that I was a part of today Happy Birthday Babe! We <3 you! MWA!
