Gabber!!!

I don't know much about gabber, all I know is I've heard it at a couple of raves and thought it was really repetitious and though I liked it at the rave, outside of that context I might think it is stupid because it's so repetitious and pounding. But I'm guessing there are a lot of cool gabber songs out there, but I don't know where to look for them. For those of you who know about gabber, can you think of any songs which are unusually melodic, like not only have the hard gabber beat but some sort of a recognizable melody? Thanks!!!

man, you should have come straight to me. i used to be into hardcore, hardcore. there is a lot of newstyles coming out in the hardcore sound, and lately i've been getting more into jungle and breakcore. but i can still give you the DL on some of the sickest music out there.

hardcore has amazing melodies, hard driving bass and crazy ass samples. it is IMO some of the most creative and driving electronic music out there.

some excellent producers to check out on audiogalaxy are:

neophyte

D.R.U.G.S
this one is for you
this is war
braincracking

dj promo<---earlier stuff is extremely energetic and trancey
chemical compound

ways of the underground
beat ya brain
my underground madness
bullet from my gun
let the bass boom
the bad guy

the masochist<--this guy is nuts. very ruff.
wanna fuck
antimix (any remix of it, or the original)
pump it up y'all
no newstyle
funky dope
killing scum
cold medina
get retarded (w. bass-d and king matthew)

holy crown forces
fuck out quick
feel the force

nosferatu
fuck the prejudice
unleash the fury
unacceptable (endymion mix)
the future (evil activities mix)
the prayer

endymion
the core (dj promo mix)
we are the future
la magra
mind and body as one

check out http://www.enzyme.nl for more of this sort of stuff by endymion and the like.

also check out http://www.mastersofhardcore.com or www.bzrk.com or http://www.recess.nl or http://www.sector-1.com

if you like any of this stuff, i have more suggestions. but mastersofhardcore.com should have a ton of shit.

hope i helped.

Although I dont really like Hardcore at all or Happy Hardcore. (Most of the tunes and melodies and voices are the fatest cheese I've ever heard in my life!!!!)
There is one song that was good.
Something called Zombie Nation. It was pretty good I thought. For Hardcore at least!

Posted by phl1979 on Mar-20-2002 11:37:

You can try almost anything from the former Ruffneck/Gangsta label, but I especially recommend the following:
Lockjaw - Selecta
Lockjaw - In My Brain
Lockjaw - Deep In The Underground
Lockjaw - Get Sorted
Lockjaw - Underground Funk
Lockjaw - Smoke Diz One
Lockjaw - The Point
Lockjaw - Reactor

Predator - Dubplate Style
Trypticon - Soul Reaver
Trypticon - Mixmasta
Nosferatu - The Future
Myztic - Photonic Style

From other artists/labels I would recommend:
Anything from The Dreamteam (consisting of Dano, Gizmo, Buzz Fuzz and The Prophet), but especially:
The Prophet - Feel It
The Prophet - The Dreamtheme
The Prophet - Allright Now Here We Go
The Prophet - Dundee (though it's not really hardcore but more housey)
The Prophet - With Your Love
The Prophet - I See The Future
Dano - Welcome To The Thunderdome
Buzz Fuzz - D-Leria
Buzz Fuzz - Classic Adventures
Buzz Fuzz - Frequencies
Buzz Fuzz - Freedom

Black Knight - Bring The Basze
DJ Isaac & The Viper - The Real Shit
DJ Isaac & The Viper - Funky Beats
G-Town Madness - Put Your Hands Up
Rotterdam Terror Corps - We're Gonna Blow Your Mind

And a few classix:
Stunned Guys - Beats Time
DJ Weirdo & Phil Omanski - Young Birds
DJ Mongoose - Rip Shit Up
Bass D & King Matthew - Raveworld
Neophyte - Execute
DJ Isaac - Bad Dreams
Inferno Brothers - Slave To The Rave
Marshall Masters - Stereo Murder

Hope this will help you. I was into hardcore/gabber from 1995-1998, the years I still consider the genre's best days, both musical and party-wise (Thunderdome, Mysteryland, Earthquake, Hellraiser, Digital Overdose, Trip To Dreamland, Ghosttown, Raver's Religion... hmmm brings back some fine memories )
It was the scene that made ID&T (now famous for Sensation, Shockers, Innercity and Trance Energy) big. Though gabber has been almost mainstream for many years, the scene is relatively small nowadays. Many gabbers are now into hardhouse, techno and trance. But, in contrast to what many people thought, hardcore has never died!

Peace.
