Help, I'm being scammed!!
Ok, So I am signed up on 2 different Au Pair websites (correction, only one now,) and on these sites, there is a blurb about myself, my first and last name, which country I live in, and how old I am.
One of the websites, I have been a member of for almost a year. I have yet to have any actual problems with this one.
The other website I joined more recently, and have discovered that it gives my e-mail address to people who are only LOOKING at my profile, whereas the other one, you have to send a "request" to even talk to the person, which you have to accept or deny, and upon accepting, then your e-mail is available.
I didn't realize this would be a problem.
Anyway, so a few days ago I received a VERY convincing e-mail:

How are you doing today and how is work?
Please are you available for a live out or live in nanny-aupair postion ?
I and my wife are both Tourists and we work 6 hrs a day,so you're needed exactly
for sitting our little Evelyn from 7:45 am-12 noon only monday through friday,you're also expected to take care of her laundries,no extra work..
Evelyn is 2years old, we will pay $400 per week.
However, i am now in United states on a business trip with my family and i will be back to Canada in 3 weeks time as i have already spent a month in U.S, but am looking for a nanny that can be in close contact with me, and wait for us till we arrive back home.
Furthermore, i will provide you your own car because i want you to be driving my daughter around sometime.
If your available, let us know the area where you are located ,and your
cell number so we can reach you..

I have received A LOT of legit e-mails from families all over the world, and this didn't get my radar up at all.
I replied asking where they were located, and when they would need me. I also asked a few questions about their daughter, and asked for him to respond when he could. I had suggested the general area in which I lived, but offered no specific info in regard to myself.
He e-mailed back and ignored my questions (not a huge shock.. a lot of people do) and continued to sound legit:
Hello there,
Good we are located in the same area,we are on vacation out of town to return in 3 weekends..i will call you asap upon our return to have a brief meeting with the family ..
heres is little about us..............
Our family is warm, fun, welcoming and inclusive. Applicants not originally from Canada are welcome, though you must have legal status to work and must be fluent in written and spoken English.
We are looking for someone to start 3rd week of November but we'll employ you during summer. We have a little flexibility about the exact date.

1.Do you smoke/drink..?
2.Do you drive..?
Are you CPR/FIRST AID CERTIFIED..its a plus
How long experience do you have in this position..

In this e-mail, I noticed something was amiss. Perhaps it was a typo, a language mistake or perhaps they forgot to mention they had more than one child, but he said "good kid*S*"
I responded with:

Please specify where you are located. It is important that I am able to
return home for a few dates (especially Dec. 2nd). Also, if you could
specify the dates you would need me, that would be great as well. I do have
a job that I would need to inform of my absense.
Blah blah blah *insert stuff about my CPR and First Aid Training here*
I am from Canada, so that is not a concern.
How many children do you have? Your first e-mail suggested you have one,
but this e-mail suggests you have several.
Are you able to provide any references or proof of who you are, to assure my
safety?
Do you have any photos of your family?
I do not smoke, and I am a social drinker, (very rarely however.) I do
drive, but I only have my G2 license (which *is* all you need to legally
drive alone. Only restrictions are how much weight I can carry, and the
amount of alcohol in my blood must be 0).
I am used to working with kids. Although in my immediate family I am the
youngest, my extended family has about 15 children under the age of 14. I
did a lot of babysitting for my cousins. I also worked for the local
Community Center as a Camp Counsellor for ages 2-6, and was a nanny in 2004
to a newborn.
My intentions are to become an elementary school teacher. I find that I
work best in an environment with children, and kids tend to like me.
I have been living on my own for about 3 and a half years, so I have gotten
a very instilled sense of independence and responsibility. I know what my
priorities are, and Im reliable.

Then take out your token of $400.00 as that will secure you for us till we get back and also to show you how serious we're about employing you. Alright, so after ALL that, I need to know: how do I get his information so that I can report him?
Should I e-mail Yahoo (his e-mail provider) and tell them about his scamming ways? I would like to know how to get this guy busted, because if it hadn't been for my cautiousness, I could have divulged a lot more info than I had, and could potentially be in danger.

Drop it but before you do send the email headers to [email protected] to get his account deactivated even if they could still very easilly create another email account.
lately I've been more interested in internet forensics and have managed to get a couple domains shut down for spamming.

Hmmm, either ignore it which seems to be the easy way. Don't keep sending emails, because the more you send the more he/she/them get into it.
In all honesty just drop it, you'll be fine.

OK, so it is suspect and I'd drop it, cut off contacts etc but how does this particular scam work?
