Dems take back the House

Doesn't look like the Senate will be taken, however. Likely will just be 4 seats as predicted. Some nice governor seat pickups taken by Dems. as well.

Some much needed balance and oversight will be in order.

Get ready for a long night of recounts.

oh no..that means Nancy Pelosi is gonna be our speaker now

Posted by Sunsnail on Nov-08-2006 05:50:

CNN reports republican have 49 and democrats have 48 for the senate... veeery close.

The virginia race is down to less than 3000 votes.

THANK EVERY/ANY GOD FOR THIS!

Please win the senate, please win the senate, we're all so very tired of this Neo-Conservative BS.

all eyes on virginia!

Fucking Florida 2000 revisted is a comin'. This is a pivotal race since it's looking like McCaskill is taking Missouri and Tester may take Montana. Virginia is the firewall for the GOP.

Wow, I didn't think that would happen.

So you espouse the values of Tom DeLay?

Posted by Renegade on Nov-08-2006 06:41:

If Webb maintains this lead, I don't think a recount will make much difference, as there haven't been any reports of irregularities. Last year in Virginia there was an election for attorney-general (I think?) that was decided by ~300 votes and so resulted in a recount. By the conclusion of the recount, only 27 votes had changed hands.

I'm telling you guys, the Dems have got the senate.

I'm trying to agree, but Missouri's cutting close now!

Victory speech on now... This is great

Posted by Renegade on Nov-08-2006 06:53:

J H Webb Jr Democratic 1,162,004 49.50%
G F Allen Republican 1,157,259 49.30%
G G Parker Independent Green 25,968 1.11%

Back out to nearly 5,000. CBS apparently just called Missouri for McCaskill.

It all comes down to Montana then. Tester up by 10,000 last I saw.

Webb now up by 5000 votes.

Die hard folks can check here on Missouri:

http://www.sos.mo.gov/enrweb/statew...lts.asp?eid=189

12:50 Central time - McCaskill up by over 25,000 votes (49.1% vs. 47.7%). The Stem Cell initiative just started pulling ahead as well. The last precincts are the heavy urban precincts of Kansas City and St. Louis, which sway pretty heavily Democrat. So if I was a bettin' man, I'd say my neighboring state just got themselves a Democrat (and a pretty good one, I might add).

Again, I really didn't think Dems. would have a chance to pull this shit off. Virginia is the key. Have a gander here:

I checked the districts that were uncounted. A lot of them are in Loudon county and Richmond City. Loudon is heavily democratic ...Southern VA not so much but Richmond it is an urban environment ...

First woman speaker ftw!

Montana:

D - Tester 127,342 51%
R - Burns 116,751 47%
L - Jones 6,168 2%
65% of precincts reporting

Oh god the suspense!

Posted by Q5echo on Nov-08-2006 07:22:

"on the same day the Reagan era came to an end, Daniel Ortega is elected to office."

thats some serious irony right there.

i won't make any parallels of a communist finally taking office in Nicaragua to whats happening now in Congress...wait, did i

Is it safe to go to sleep now? I don't want to wake up and find out there was a huge upset.

Nope, it's tightening in Montana:

Tester 130,686 50%
Burns 121,730 47%
67% reporting

Won't have a result there for at least another hour or two I would have thought.

Edit:

Tester 134,013 50%
Burns 126,585 47%

Oh god, don't fuck this up for us now Montana.

Don't worry. It'll be close, but Yellow Stone, the largest county left (and the biggest in Montana) leans democratic (with only 43% of precincts reporting), and Silver Bow, the third largest remaining county is heavily democratic (with only 31% of precincts reporting). FlatHead, the second largest remaining county, is the only heavily republican county (with 60% of precincts reporting), and there aren't enough votes there to make up the current difference, let alone close the additional gap that will be created once Yellow Stone and Silver Bow are counted. I think it's safe to call Montana for the Democrats.
