Rumsfeld Resigns!

Press conference now!

What do you guys think about this? Why now - After defending Rumsfeld for so long, why is it suddenly his job to step down? Do you think he's worried about the Dem's investigating his motivations for and execution of the Iraq war?

Exciting day for Americans today...

i bet he would've liked to keep rumsfeld and with the dem's taking more power he kinda had to show a sign of change, and this is it
however, if he bit the bullet he could've done this a week or two ago and i bet it would've help the republicans win some key districts they lost to the dems yesterday

also any attempt to bring about such a trial would hurt the public image of those supporting the idea

Not gonna happen... as soon as another Rep. president takes the reigns, Bush will be pardoned.

I agree with that for the most part, but I do think they could both be tried before the war is over. The war will likely not end by the completiong of Bush's term in office, and quite frankly, I can't see a sitting US president ever being tried for war crimes. However, I do think (read: hope) that following his term, there will be substantial investigation into the legitimacy of this war - And that the responsibilty will hopefully fall squarely on the both of their shoulders.

That would be fine and well if he was tried in the U.S., but if the international community decides Bush deserves to be tried, a U.S. pardon will do fuck all to protect him.

sorry but imo the UN has been pretty worthless since its inception..

I hope the liberals dont think that the war will end cold turkey, whether complete control of congress, the presidency... doesnt matter. Fact of the matter is, they are there to stay until something is worked out in Iraq. I agree, at least start cutting down the amount of troops we have over there, bring them home 6 months-1 yr, and rotate the divisons, we really dont need 170,000, too much
