Can CDJs play .wav files burned as data? Not as audio

I have all my beatport tracks burned on CDs as data. There is a .wave file sitting on the CD. I burned them this way under the assumption that a CDJ can play them, and so I have access to the original file. Can a CDJ play a CD like this?

Thanks

only certain models can read mp3 data cds, not waves

check model specs to find out which ones support mp3, there's quite a few out there

So even if it can read MP3 it can't read a .wav? I would think the .wav would be infinitely simpler since it's raw audio.

so what files did they play before the mp3 was incorporated into them?

An audio CD is a wav CD.

It's just the way the table of contents is layed out that makes the difference between a 'data cd' and an 'audio cd'.

Basically I see no point in burning a WAV as data. It's pointless.

Don't do it!

+1

you don't gain any space by burning it as data cd so its completely pointless

You're free from time constraints. Most CDs hold only 80 minutes of music. If you burn, say, high-quality MP3s, you can hold a LOT more music on a CD if you were to burn it as a data rather than an audio disc. However, that's an excessive amount of tracks to dig through if you're going to be using it for DJ'ing as opposed to just backing up your data.

i have some cds with 5 songs some with 10 etc. i find it quite annoying and sometimes wish i had 1 song per cd. does anyone who plays in clubs have a few on each cd or 1 song per cd?

The difference between the "Audio" and "Data" cd is that the Audio one will automatically convert any mp3 files to .wav so it will play on a standard cd player. Data just burns it without and questions.

One track per CD would result in having to carry an incredible amount of CDs with you. I don't see why ten tracks per CD would be a problem. Keep them labeled so you'll know where the track is located on the CD. It only takes less than one or two seconds to skip between tracks.

all my cd's have an average of 8-10 tracks per disc, i make a TL for each cd and stick it in the cd book, easy as hell to find whatever track it is i want, i would'nt do it any other way.

i fill each cd up (8-10 tracks) and make another copy of it. label them and put them side by side. i also orginize them by genre, its helps to be orginaized when you have 400+ tracks on cds.

I thaught I remember seing it somewhere but is it possible to burn a hybrid cd that is a data and audio cd? Not just that but will most cd players support it?

Posted by Tony Morello on Nov-10-2006 20:03:

nero allows you to do that

it's an audio cd that works along with a data area

i use it to transfer my mixes to the studio along with the cue file so i can master them

You're missing the point. A .wav is what you get on a CD you might buy over the counter, except the 'lead in' is different to a data CD so that it can be understood by your average hi-fi equipment. Trust me, the data on a factory produced CD is raw .wav data.

If you convert an audio CD to MP3 you are encoding the data. Not everyone wants to do that, for a number of reasons. One being that there is a very slight loss of sound quality AND content. There are many other reasons but I won't go into those now.

If you are burning an audio CD from MP3 you are simply decoding the MP3 to wav format and burning the cd as an audio CD.

These are facts.

When I used CDs the most I would ever put would be four tracks per CD usually one or two is best that way you don't have to make doubles.

yes but you will end up using more cds anyway cause there are less tracks on each one. I would put up to 10 tracks on a cd and do another copy

So what CDs are dirt cheap.

I usually burn anywhre from 2-10 tracks per cd (according to Artist). If it is a full album that I bought and downloaded I will burn as an album, just like if I ordered the original CD from where ever. If I buy 10 tracks from beatport and 3 of them are from the same artist I will burn those 3 tracks only and the other 7 will get burned according to Artist or Alphabetically.

but that has nothing to do with the question originally asked.. Just chiming in with everyone else..

im talking about space in a cd wallet not the cost.

Posted by SPAWNmaster on Nov-11-2006 20:13:

i burn one track per cd and i dont have a problem with space...my cd book holds 200 discs so if i have a bunch of new tracks that i know id like to play i just replace the oldest ones or least played ones with those

Alphabetically! jesus your really structured. suppose its much eaier to search through and find cds.

my vinyl is sitting in rows and in no structure whatsoever. i just play a track and think what track will go with it search through the pile and then drop it in.

my cds are in a cd folder and i just burn them as i buy them. maybe i should try and organise them more.
