November 2006 mix - DJ Metatron - Glacial [progressive]

November 2006 Mix

(right-click, save as)

Hello again. Finished my new mix and it's ready for listen. Just want to make a little announcement here. I know I'm a bit unconsistent when it comes to releasing my mixes so if you want me to let you know when I've released my new mix, give me an email. Use the subject line "Mail Me". Thanks.

This mix's theme is pretty self evident. Cool feeling tracks with a fresh feel and a groovy vibe for the most part. A lot of the tracks in the meat of the mix have a groovy, housey type beat and bass but a trancy melody component. I think that is the type of sound that is paramount at this point in time. Convergence of progressive house and progressive trance. I've got two Jaytech tracks in a row and they are pretty characteristic of the sound I'm talking about. I realize having two tracks from the same producer is kinda a "no no" but I really couldn't help myself. They are perfect for the flow and theme, and I love both equally. I'd say the mix has three acts. The first act is very progressive trance. Chiller, very "Schulz's Ibiza 06", hehe. After that is more housey, groovy section that I was talking about. This stuff can be very uplifting! After that it get's back into progressive trance to epic trance. The set has a pretty big delta in BPM but I think I did a pretty good job hiding it. I really do love all these tracks a ton so I'm not going to talk about all of them. I will just talk about one right now. Amethyst, by Russ James; the track is such a wicked excecution of traditional trance conventions but done in a particularly astounding way. The build and break are pretty standard and the lead is simple and beautiful; but, at the end of the break when the bass and beat come in and the melody and saws crescendo... !!! fuck yeah!!! One of the few tracks that has given me chills for a while now. Watch out for Russ James, he is a producer to watch.

78:15 * 224 KBPS * ~129-138 BPM

oh yes. I'm sending those out now, lol. doesn't really concern you tho as you browse the forums pretty frequently it seems.

would love to hear your thoughts. a different kinda vibe in this one. mellow yet lighthearted for the majority. interested to hear your opinion. once again your "Loungery" mix is fucking superb. everyone should check it out.

Pinokio: sick to know your on it. want to hear your thoughts on the style. is this something everyone is doing? heh, sometimes i think that way. but, the feeling is what i go for. anyway thanks for downloading.

Clubharder: you will definately like this. i seem to remember you liking my Somnolent mix quite a bit. this is very similar in nature and style. I think the energy is a bit tighter but the diversity is lesser in this one. would love to know your thoughts.

Grabbing this now. I suspect, as always, that this is pure quality. Nothing like a new mix to start a lazy Sunday morning!

This looks great! downloading now - thanks

That glacial pic is really really nice. It's sort of a strange coincidence that it appears because I justed watched "An Inconvient Truth" with Al Gore discussing the melting of the glaciers in Antartica and the North Pole.

Back on topic: I'm downloading your mix. lol

Excellant mix yet again!! Mixing is bang on. It flows along nicely just felt Take Me Away 2006 was a liitle of place!!

Posted by stevieboy32808 on Nov-13-2006 19:01:

I listened to this set three times and it just isn't my cup of tea. Sorry bro, that's just a personal thing.

Posted by Pinokio on Nov-14-2006 01:21:

Hey I listened to your mix mate

The First IT's really nice for an oepener and it does feels glacial, I think it goes witht he coincept of the mix.

Turning the curve it's also ag great sogn andI really love it, now the transition seemed a bit short for me, not that I'm against short transitions, but I felt it could have been better.

Also nyou should check the levels this time, I felt in Jaytech manipulato it was louder than the previous song, and also when No Need to comeback enter, I feel it's a bit louder than the other song.

about the 2 Jaytech song in a row, I really don't give a fuck, it sounds well, and I also love both of the tracks.

Russ James Amethyst it's avery nice song as you mentioned, I haven't heard it before and I really enjoyed it, follow by shimmering sounds very nice.

Overall this mix is cool, but it's not amazing.
I mean the blending of tracks are nice, but not amazing as I expect from Metatron's Trademark =).

anyways I wish the best for yo umy friend

and I'll wait for your next mix

Thanks

Pepa

Thanks man, appreciate it. Ya, I'm not completely sold on that track. The thing is, it's hardly distinguishable from any other Purple Haze track. Which is understandable for what he wants to do with that alias, but the sound needs to evolve if it is to remain fresh. It's still a great sound though, just needs more evolution imo. The main reason I wanted it in there was because I thought it went perfect after Addicted. It complimented the track nicely and also brought a bit of a darker feel to the progression for the Leon Bolier track.

Again thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the nice feedback Pepa. I agree with everything you say and there is not really anything else I need to add. You are right on all counts. I almost forgot to review your newest mix and am going to do it as soon as I can mate. It looks wonderful, I've just been f-ing swamped with everything. I've got a ten page tech paper due tommorrow and I'm not even half done as of now, lol. Again, thanks for taking the time for the feedback.

Well mate, you've done it again. I adore the melodic style you're promoting in this set, gorgeous tracks every single one of them. The programming is brilliant too, although some of the transitions did not work out that well individually, as Pepa pointed out. As a whole though, this set is like a journey, and what a beautiful one it is too. Well done!!

Wow, thanks mate. I've followed your comments for a very long time now and I respect your opinion very much so it means a lot. I personally am very happy with the over all theme of this mix, it is very clear and present. The tunes speak for themselves. The fine details were where I lacked IMO. But what's fun in creating a mix, and what I focus on most, is the personality, the communication, the flow etc. Everything else is secondary to me at this point. Thanks again, appreciate the input very much!

This is a great mix

You really musically struck what you wanted to show us visually

(If that makes sense)

Its calm, cool and energetic at the same time

The only song I think felt out of place was the Purple Haze remix I think it was a little too dark for the tone of the mix but overall I really enjoyed it

I think Turning the Curve and Roundabout where the highlights for me = )

Me and my friends very much enjoy the mix everyone needs to listen to this for sure its great driving music I might add ^^

again, excellent mix in every inch. At first I thought it is nothing really special, but when I had a complex listen, I was able to follow you, again. You picked the right tracks to accomplish the theme. Although it is not my fav picture of you, I can't give it less than 9/10, because it is simply impeccable. Amethyst is purely addictive. My friend said this old school melody reminds him of Falcor, the flying dog from Neverending Story, lol

btw. good to see you back on TA John

I agree with you.

I'm liking this theme. I've been listening to this mix frequently on the early mornings. It's great company. Lovely mix to end the year with, that is if you don't plan to release a new one before the year ends.

As a whole, this year you provided some great music. Your work has showed throughout the year. Thank you for the mixes. Happy holidays and the best for 2007.
