EUROPE and why i HATE it!!!!!

I have what some would say a dream job. I get paid and paid well to play volleyball. Two hours a day, one match a week, different countries in Europe, etc. How could anyone not want this, right? Well it always sounds better then it really is.

I've been tring to stay positive most of the time i've been playing in Europe. I figured most of my friend are working job which they don't necessarily enjoy, so how could i complain about my job? Well i've reached that point where i'm considering calling it quits.

What would any of you do if you didn't get you paycheck on time? Its been 2 months since i got paid, not to mention the fact that i haven't seen any of my bonus money for each of our wins so far. Generally i'm a very grateful person but lately its been pissing me off that i have to kiss someones ass every time i get paid. I get paid to do my job. On top of all this i've been waiting for a phone line and internet since i got here and i've been told that it will be at least another month before i get it. I'm tired of getting 8 dollar double espressos just so i can check my email at the cafe.

Am i over reacting? Am i just being a pussy?

$8 espresso's? Re there's a net cafe right @ Lidras that's super cheap as hell, it's upstairs overlooking the street. As for delays, it's Cyprus, bitch back 200x more and you'll get what you want. (trust me it works).

that sucks!! What country are u in?

Id find out what the laws are and see about getting paid. Also as far as the 8 euro espressos... does free internet come with that for free? if so thats not so bad is it?

thats true in a lot of countries. When it comes to objecting to something you have to be very aggressive or else they dont care.

It's probably $8 canadian for an espresso...currency exchange. roughtly 2.60 cypriot pounds for every canadian dollar

ahh well if the $8 comes with free internet then its a good deal. In toronto, internet alone is about the same price per hour.

Posted by matty on Nov-11-2006 22:25:

chris bro, we tried that approach already. I don't want to come off as an asshole though and there more i bitch the more it looks like it. I've been very patient so far but i can't let them run over me like that. I had the same problems in Greece, in fact i'm still waiting for my last two paychecks, haha.

Yah its $8 canadian dollars. I really don't mind it all that much because it gives me something to do during the days but $250/month is a little ridiculous for internet. I could buy a espresso machine for that much and make it at home

awww omg..

well i'm sorry it's like that for you... I lived in Cyprus for about 8 years before coming here, and everything you ranting about is unfortunately true you have to kick start everyone to do anything there, i do believe you are paying $8 for an expresso, cos Starbucks there is 3x more expensive then here...

do you speak the language btw? cos i know it's 100 times harder for anyone who doesnt, as in - things get done in snap of a finger for a greek-speaker, and foreigners are usually better off coming in with someone who is fluent in Greek to either translate everything for them or get this person to do everything for you

Fortunetely my best bud is here playing with me and our good friend on the team is a Cypriot. Its just a totally different culture. The first word i was taught by my friend was "avrio" (tomorrow) because there is always time for things to get done.

A typical conversation, "hey Savva, can we go get the internet set up?" "Meh, not today my friend, tomorrow." haha

lol so true about avrio. We're not all like that though. Kick some ass and get shit done re. Reminds me of how we took a cab from Galatex in Limassol to my uncle's house near the boardwalk. Brother had a 10 min argument with the cabby about him stiffing us (even though we spoke Greek to the guy!). HAH.

che

i'll kick your ass if you quit.

it won't be easy, and i might fail, but i'll try.

LOL
how about the time when i was doing the same - taxi from Galatex to my place by Ayios Nicolas, and the driver put another passenger in with me, who was this trashed brit kid, wanting to take a taxi all the way to Brit. Bases AND he started puking half way through

Dayam.. you know what you gotta do Matty.. sleep with the team owners daughter.. C'mon we both know you can do it.

Seriosuly though that sux man.. I hope it works out for the best, remember you're the living the dream!! Hehe you inspired Emery to go play volleyball afterall! lol.. Be like matt! ;-)

p.s you have every right to be pissed that you didn't get paid. eventhough you get to play in the sand and only really work for a couple hours out of the week, you still deserve the pay for the service you provide..

Ayios Nicolas eh? If that's near the Anglias Brandy making factory (small roundabout) that's where my aunt's luggage shop is (Euro Luggage). As for wasted Brits...hahah, you should've seen it during world cup, man...it was awesome, a lot of cool ppl though. As for puking, aw man, too bad they didn't know their limits. lol

Posted by 8Wonders on Nov-12-2006 00:38:

Quit? Don't you even dare!

I'll send the Savage after you, it won't be pleasant.

Dont base your opinions of a wonderful continent based on your experiences in one country. Yes it has its problems, but Id move there in a second if it wasnt for other reasons.Europe is where the shit is /RANT
