Bang Music Festival 2006 - REVIEW

OMFG, those 80 minutes or so that Daft Punk played were alone worth the trip down from New York.

Now I'm going to curl up for a nap at the airport...

I was unsure about going, until a friend hooked up a comp and then it was all systems go. Now my legs feel like they went through a grinder.

Got there and heard about 45 minutes of Acosta. He was playing good stuff and had everyone going off. My only complaint, when your set is only an hour or so why not leave the vocalist at home and play two more tracks instead of having her perform 2 commercial songs?

Then came Second Sun which started techy and built up nicely. I was pleasantly surprised by them and some of their productions, and they set up Tiesto nicely.

As for Tiesto, he brough his A+++++ game. He started off with a nasty techy beat for about 10 minutes or so, dropped Dance 4 Life, and then all hell broke loose. Place went nutz. He did play a couple of classics, with Flight 643 (nasty remix) and Lethal Industry (remix) coming to mind. He also played some lighter stuff, but it flowed perfectly IMO, and overall his set had a hell of alot of energy and had that place going insane. Most packed and energized stage of the night - hands down. Hate all you want, he is the best show you are going to get from an EDM DJ, period.

Christopher Lawrence, I only heard 3 songs. It was bad enough that everyone was already leaving to go to Daft Punk, but he made it worse by bringing down the energy level from a 10 to a 3. A Chinese fire drill ensued.

Daft Punk. They were as advertised, amazing production and lights. Music was okay, a little slow at times. But a very good trippy show none-the-less. Perfect booking.

I caught some of Filo & Peri. They first played that Pink Floyd knockoff everyone likes, I think it is called Bad Education. Next couple of songs built on that energy and style. Better than I thought, especially after Lawrebce had cleared the stage. Still was kind of light on crowd, but better.

Now it was time to enter the time machine and go see some of Duran Duran. Wow they had a lot of people there. Maybe more than Tiesto, just more spread out if so. They were okay. A lot of women there for them though, a definite plus.

Then I closed it out with 4 Strings. Wow he went off. I really liked the harder trance he was playing when I got there. He then dropped more straight trance including a "Take me Away" remix that everyone ate up. I wonder if they even knew that was his production??? He brought that stage completely back to life and made people dance their assess off despite the exhaustion.

All in all I give Bang a good rating. Tiesto was priceless, Daft Punk was a must, and everything else I saw was at least okay if not good. The price was a definite issue, and for the first time I found myself ready to say screw it and miss a festival I actually wanted to go to because of it.

BTW the line @ Space already was into the street @ 12:15 when I picked up my car. Good luck there guys and gals.

Time to lay down and pass out.

I think Daft Punk is so much better than Rabbit. Maybe because we have seen Rabbit so many times down here? I don't know? But either way production wise there is no comparison IMO, Daft Punk all the way.

.. alright now for a bit longer review.

I get there at a little bit past 2. I think it was good enough cause I was sweating my ass off just for standing with the crowd. Anyways, I basically walked around until Markus Schulz came on. What can I say, I think he started the show for the trance stage, he really brought the A game with him, played just how I like it, banging, upbeat music.

Then it was George Acosta. I thought he would bring the Hard trance with him, its how I know the guy, but that didnt happen so I just went out and vented a bit more, went to catch Yerba Buena, interesting stuff, but then decided to go and get myself some water/drink tix's instead. Then I headed down to the Damian Marley show.. you didnt need green to get high from that, not what I expected so I fled and hanged out at the house stage for a bit. Roger was on playing a good set, some vey well known tracks, fun set.

Then it was time for Tiesto. Before I start, one of the tunes I been digging lately from the Digweed transitions set is Paul Kalkbrenner – Gebrünn Gebrün, and thats how Tiesto started. From that I told myself, alright this is gonna be good. And indeed it was. Banging techy set in the beginning that had everyone going nuts.. the middle part got slow a lo ISOS.. but then it went off again with some Flight 643 remix, god I love that song, classic but goodie. Great set from Tiesto.

Then it was time for Daft Punk. What else can I say, best show I ever seen. Crazy crazy crazy insane awesome. Im sorry for anyone that missed if they are indeed going to stop performing. CRAZYYYYY

ANd Duran Duran, they put up a great show too, very well performed and played the tunes that I expected and liked, so I left happy. By then I was already falling apart.. so I then decided to walk and see what 4 strings was all about, can you say Energy freaking trance! WOW .. althought I caught the end, it sounded pretty good. Then time to go home.

Bang was fun, a lot of people, 3 times then last year. Just the 75 bucks that I paid left a little bit to be desired with some things such as the sound in trance stage and such.. but all good.

The Cure @ Ultra?? mmmm intresting.

Thats it. I got a couple of pics and vis. If im not lazy enough I'll post.

Interesting reviews. Got a couple of mixed ones about Tisto...I heard from a former flame that he absolutely sucked in Atlanta the night before, but then again this BANG was an outdoor thing so he could have changed it up.

Waiting to see some pics.

Tiesto Brought his A +GAME. It was amazing he played some new tunes mixed in with some of his classics. Pirates of the Carribean came on and the place went nuts!!!!

Daft Punk OMG Best show i have ever seen!!! the setup was just amazing. The lights OMGGGGGGGGG.

Overall Bang this year was 20000000000 times better than last, Markus and Second Sun also ripped it up!!

i dont know what set u where at GA played alot of hard, dark trance tunes.

No worries. I read in an interview with the Miami Herald on Friday that said they don't know how that rumor got started but that Bang would be their last show of 2006 only.

Good thing because it sounds like I missed something special!

Posted by Mattivi on Nov-12-2006 18:05:

Got there around 3. Saw Ivano Bellini who was playing a real nice set. Went over to check out Edgar V who was playing a real bangin house set also. Went to check out Steve Angello but his set was kinda of boring to me. Decided to go check out Markus who was rockin out in front of an amped crowd. GA was next and played a nice mix of melodic and darker trance tunes, had a live singer at end of set which wasnt a bad touch either. Second Sun came on next and i must say i really like those guy's track selection really good set progression.

Now for TIESTO!!! he started off real shitty to me, played that Dance 4 life track which is absolutely horrible. the first half hour was a little choppy, he played a real nice tech stomper than went into "touch me in the morning", WTF?? than after that he absolutely went on tear, like ONLY he CAN. Vintage tiesto, i got raped for 80$ on the tickets, but i would pay that in spades just to see that set!! he absoultly banged it out with hi-nrg tracks, really made me realize why i still and will always love and remain loyal to tiesto, the man still has it. the crowd was really loving it too. he thru in the obligatory Adaigio and Flight643(eek), but surprising they fit into his set real nicely, finished off with CJ BOLLAND- THE PROPHET!!!! perfect closer!!!! defnitly the set of the night for me.

we than went over to daft punk, who had a dope ass pyriamid for a stage and they wore the light goggles which was dope too. they played some real unique and crazy tracks, definitly a great show, my runner up to tiesto.

overall i really liked bang, a little pricey but all the acts i saw were quality. im more of a househead now, but the trance stage was definitly the place to be, the sound seems to carry better in an open air format than house does. hopefully there is third edition next year

HA, is the Cure scheduled to play at Ultra? That would be sweet!

Hey guys

I got at the festival just in time for Markus Schulz. He really owned with his set which was my favorite of the day. I was able to shake his hand so I can die now lol.

After that I heard a bit of George Acosta, Tom De Neef (he played great btw), Second Sun, and Roger Sanchez.

Then when Tiesto came in, it just got sooo unbelievably packed with people. As for myself and my friends that went with me, we didnt like the start of the set so we left early even though I had a feeling he would play some better tunes. Atleast I was able to hear him play (Super 8 & DJ Tab - won't sleep tonight)

If I had my car already I'd stay till close. I really wanted to see Filo & Peri and 4 Strings

I really wanted to see some FLTAs but I only know how Mel C looks like lol.

Oh btw I got some pics here for yall to dl.

Could not really do a review for GA honestly cause I heard the first 3 tunes and last 3.. that was my impression. Also heard that he basically played the same throughot so thats why I said what I said. Good to know he did throw what he's pretty much known for.
