Another DJ Setup thread..:)
Hiya guys..
Well..I wanted to buy some new equipment...since all the hardware I've been mixing with has been on a renting bases..
I'm no newbie..I'm a dj/producer and have been for the past 5 years..but I've been mp3 mixing mostly,so now I want to get my own hardware equipment, yet at a price that's affordable..and had a couple of things in mind.
First setup:
Pioneer CDJ-100 (x2)
Pioneer DJM-300
Second setup:
Geminis with the same pioneer mixer
I also thought of getting the cdjs200..there's about a 350dollar difference between the cdj100 and cdj200...but if I get the cdj200..I might just get an American Audio 4 channel mixer instead of the djm..so I'm in a bit of a dillema here..since this is my first time buying the equipment for myself...
Another thing is..I thought I should start with the Pioneer Dual CD Players..the CMX-3000...they look pretty decent..and was wondering if I should get them instead of singles..its for a bedroom setup..
Thx guys and waiting for ur feedback..
Cheers

I know not a lot about that stuff you mention, but what I do know is that the 100s aren't nearly as good as the 200s.
Get the 200s, they will keep you a lot happier than the 100s.
Jarv
the DJM-300 is a good no-thrills no-frills mixer. Diff 200's over the 100's!
What about the Gemini and the dual cd pioneers??
Cheers
DJ Resemo
No, don't get anything with the word Gemini written on it.
Get the 200's.
How come..what's wrong with the Geminis??
Cheers
DJ Resemo
dont question, just trust the advice u are given.
geminis are dirt cheap and are poorly built for the most part. pioneer is the way to go.
Like it has been said time and time again, you get what you pay for.
Gemini make cheap stuff that is marketed and someone about to start DJing on a budget. The low price *usually* reflects the quality of the product, and 6 months down the line when the CD players shit the bed you're going to have to fork out for some more. By this point, you'll probably want to look into upgrading your setup anyway, so those Pioneers might have seemed like a good idea all along...
Also another big advantage of buying higher quality DJ stuff is the resale value. If you find out that DJing isn't for you after all and you decide to sell your gear, you won't even get half of what you paid for those Gemini things. Buy some Pioneer CD players and you'll have people queueing up trying to buy them off you.
It may seem like a big leap spending all that money on something that you've never tried before, but if you buy cheap shit in the first place it will cost you more in the long run.

yeah get the cdj200's... i know of people who use them with the djm800 which is a $1300 mixer!!! putting the cdj200's next to the djm800 says a lot...
imo, you should just get the cdj200's and save for a new mixer
how much are you looking to spend
there's one club here in my town which uses a 4 Channel american dj mixer...actually it feels quite solid...and looks sexy...I can't guarantee how long it will last...but actually I would get that and CDJ 200s
just for the 200s if you can't save more...
also...this mixer will last you for some time I hope...and later you can upgrade...
as I said, no guarantees here, I just played on it once and it felt good for a cheapo mixer
been shoppin for my first setup and had a question or two..dunno if i can afford to pick up all the hardware i want/need at once, so was wonderin what the bare essentials would be..
my list so far:
2 - Pioneer CDJ 200s
1 - Ecler Nuo (2 or 3, is there a big difference?)
i plan on utilizin my laptop down the road, so any advice on a decent soundcard would be good too...and is it absolutely necessary to purchase monitors from the get go? i have some intact speakers from an old stereo i dont use and i dunno if i can afford to purchase them along with everything else..thanks in advance
You can use any speakers as your monitors
I use my old aiwa stereo for now.

Massive thanks for the replies lads..
Ok..here's the latest I got to..
First off..I'm deciding now between the cdj200's and the Gemini singles..not sure what their mark is..but they about 200 dollars cheaper each!
I found the pios for 350 dollars each..which brings us to a total of about 800 dollars..cuz of shipment charges and stuff..and IMO..that's a pretty good price for the cdj200.
The only thing the gemini's got over the 200s is the fact that there's a + and - button for the pitch bending together with the jog wheel..while the cdjs have the jog wheel only..picky?? I guess..lol
As for the mixers..I usually play with an American Audio 4 channel mixer..which is pretty decent..I usually use the american audio mixer with Denon dual cd players..but compared to mp3 mixing..the quality isn't that good...
So..as for mixers...if I get the cdjs..I'll go for a cheap mixer...or vice versa..but as for a cheap mixer..american audio or behringer...or vestax??
Thx alot guys..
Cheers

Did you try AGI for the CDJ-200's? I thought you can get them a little cheaper than $350, shipped (maybe not?)
Do NOT buy the Gemini decks. It might seem cheaper now, but when you buy your second pair of CDJ's (when the Gemini's break, or totally suck), then you'll be spending even more money. And I'm pretty sure the Gemini's don't have .02% pitch accuracy (which the CDJ-200's do).
As for not having +/- pitch buttons, I'm not sure why Pioneer doesn't include them on their single decks (their dual does have them). The jog wheel does work just fine, but why not give the option?
The Ecler Nuo-2 looks like a nice, inexpensive mixer that will last you.

What are you planning to do with the laptop? You might want to look into Torq, as for around $250 you get the software (which is quite good), as well as an external soundcard.

torq lol dont get torq...
why dont you get ssl and ableton
What's wrong with Torq? I happen to like it quite a bit, it offers everything SSL does and much more at half the cost:
1. Can re-wire into ableton (SSL can't)
2. Support MIDI control (SSL doesn't)
3. Has effects (SSL doesn't)
4. Supports VST's (SSL doesn't)
5. Has loops (SSL doesn't)
6. The connectiv audio interface works with any audio application, as it's a regular soundcard (SSL's interface only works with Serato).
SSL really only offers the following over Torq:
1. Lower latency
2. Audio interface is built like a tank
3. Long track record of reliability (Torq is still new)
If you're looking for a traditional DJ experience, with proper beatmatching and mixing and decks and such, Torq is the way to go.
Ableton is great, but it's not DJ'ing per se. It's more live production, which is probably not what a beginner should be doing (unless they are brilliantly talented, which most people aren't).

so much cheaper and better than SSL. the only thing im waiting for is im hoping m-audio will add digital ins/outs to the interface to retain a 100% digital setup.
I think that's a violation of Forum rules.
In any case, stay clear of CDJ-100's and the DJM-300. Not that's there's anything wrong with them, they are just quite outdated.

I guess I'm made up about the cdj200..but then a friend mentioned the Stanton c4 or c400...something like that...gettin' similar pioneer quality at a cheaper price..??
I can't decide on the mixer though..omnitronic or american audio..I know both are at the low end..but that goes with the budget..lol..?
Thx!
