Well that's an interesting response. That's actually rather insightful. Do you think that this only happens for females or for all people in general?

Not sure. Actually I don't even know if this is how most females look at it.

Most girls I know had sex for the sole purpose of fitting in, or getting guys to like them, etc. It wasn't about that at all for me. I held off doing it for as long as I could, I really wanted to be sure I was doing the right thing for myself, and that I was 100% ready.

When I made the decision to do it, I hadn't planned on having sex again for a long time after that because it wasn't about promiscuity or a physical need, or any of the other typical reasons people do it. I think it was about a year till I had sex again, after my first boyfriend and I had been together for about 6 months. I took his virginity.


To this day I still think sex a pretty serious thing.

Just do it man. I recommend guys have their first sexual experience with someone they don't particularly care for. Otherwise it'll be like this experience that you've built up in your head as the be all and end all, and if you happen to have feelings for the girl who first gives it to you, you will be totally pussy-whipped. Get a few under the belt before you actually make love to someone you care about. The other benefit is that by the time you're with someone you care for you'll have learnt dick control and will take longer than 30 seconds to bust a nut.

I made the mistake of losing my virginity with a chick I cared about.

Anyway, after 2.5 years of dating, we broke up because she was crazy, and I was immature.

Needless to say. I have no real opinion or grounds to blah blah about virginity stuff.

But yea. My fiance today is happy I have penile experience.

Losing my virginity was a regrettable thing. From the moment I left the apartment, I was already feeling bad about it. Sex is so fucking overrated it's not even funny. Once I had it, I felt like such a loser for wanting to have it so much.

Maybe that would change if I fucked someone I cared about. Unfortunately, I don't care about anyone because no one cares about me.

It sounds like your attitude before you had sex was the problem. Sex is no big deal and guys build it up into something huge. That's the mistake.. and it only leads to trouble. It puts unnecessary pressure on you when you try to pick up girls. It increases chances of pussy-whippage etc.. SO I'd say it's a good thing that you got the wrong attitude out of your system.

The saddest, most pathetic sight in the world is seeing a guy alowing himself to be totally dominated and treated like a doormat by his girl, just because she has more sexual experience than him. I mean I'm all for people having sex for fun, for experimentation... but when you say have sex w/ someone you don't really care for... I think that's pretty poor considering you're gonna hurt them. Ideally in that scenario there are no strings attached and no-one will get hurt, but there are always strings attached. Moreso, do you know what 'some' level of emotion to actually heighten the experience sex brings?

Another point is that, at least for me, is that I would probably never have sex w/ someone I didn't care for in relation to the potential pregnancy risk. I know, condoms 95%... that's honestly not good enough for me in comparison to having a child w/ someone I give 2 rats about. Just thinking about them having similar personality characters to the female to which I have no feelings for just gives me chills.

Although, as someone did mention, to not procrastinate it so much that you think sex is the be all and end all of everything... I think that that is really relevant... however, I still think that waiting until it is meaningful for yourself, and you're not kidding yourself and doing it for reasons you're willing to accept and not rationalise is preferable.

I understand there's a fuckload of questions, frustration and the like that coems out of this... and tbh, there's no clear cut answer... but I suppose you take on all the advice, and take out of it what you find relevant in your life.

Okay, that wasn't the purpose of my statement at all, I think that's another whole issue... which will probably cater best in another thread.

But to reply, my opinion is that, yes it may well have been for procreation only, however it's role has probably changed in modern society. Essentially I was pointing out my opinion which is if you have sex w/ someone, you should definately care about them, and there should be no malice or ill-intentions.

This opens up a whole new bag of issues. What if "caring about them", despite being true, is only imagine. Like say:

- must reproduce
- conditioned to put meaning into sex
- perceive caring/emotional attachment
- have sex

I've had sex with more people that I haven't had deep feelings for than vice versa. I have never lied to any of them with regard to my intentions, or lead them on. These days one night stands are so common, it's quite easy to do without really hurting anyone.
Actually I found I got to a stage where it was no longer satisfying to me, and it was harmful for me psychologically and I decided I needed to be more selective about who I sleep with. I don't have regrets because it was a phase I needed to go through, and I still much prefer to have racked up the experience I have.

I guess we have what the investment industry would call differing risk profiles. You are more risk averse than me. In the past I've chosen to have casual sex despite the risks (though I have ALWAYS used protection), I've chosen to drink alcohol and smoke despite the risks, I've chosen to recreationally take drugs despite the risks. I've had a great time doing all those things and regret nothing. Now I have calmed down, I only rarely get drunk, never take drugs any more and am not promiscuous like I used to be. But I think all my experiences have not only given me some fun memories of crazy times, but also a much more rounded and worldly personality.

I never needed to rationalise it. I was raised with the understanding that it is good to have sexual experience before you get involved in a serious relationship. Those were my moral standards and I could accept sex for pure physical enjoyment and experience as a valid reason. There was no rationalisation or "kidding myself" involved. SO it depends on the individual, though in principle I agree that if there is one rule it is not to kid yourself and stay true to yourself.
