TC Works Mercury-1

I hope to not get flamed by this post cuz I love the forum.. there need to be more places on the net for trance producers to get together and talk about gear and stuff...

anyways...
I am lookin for someone to hook me up with TC Works Mercury-1. Its a killer analog VSTi that i have to get my hands on. If anyone can help me out it would be great...

Just for the record. Analog synthesis and VSTi is like...michael jackson (i.e. a black man being a white man). It's not possible xcept for michael. The best it can do is imitate an analog synth.

now ya just being picky

Posted by Ianhymers on Mar-21-2002 20:53:

hahaha I know its not REAL anolog.. but the fact is it sounds close enuff for me.. see back when i was like 19 i was ALL about analog but i realized that stuff like nordz, the virus, supernova, jp8000/8080 are geting to sound really close to the old analog beast with out the problems like no midi or going out of tune every 30 seconds. and now that time has moved on software is starting to get up to that good enuff level too! plus i can buy like 7 or 8 Vsti's for the price of say a juno 106 or a tr-909..

but respect to whatever ya use.. I mean there is some analog stuff that i just love.. korg MS-10 some of the REALLY old modular synths like ARPs (mmmm soooo good) or rolands system 700!!! now those guys rock! even tho they take up 1/2 a room there is just sooo much you can do...

yo amn where u find the vst

iam trying to get diif instrument i have like 8 tell me

you can retrofit lots of vintage gear with midi (moogs n stuff), they do have unstable oscillators often tho. But there is always the analog beast the Alesis Andromeda A6 woohoo

But I agree, VA will do, it's pretty impressive if you can tell the difference if it sits tightly in a mix.

Do the oscillators really matter? Do these old synths have an audio in? Because I don't think you would be able to tell the difference b/w a real moog osc and an plain wave you generate some other way and run through the synth. Or am I wrong?

Posted by Pjotr G on Mar-22-2002 14:50:

well...you are wrong. If you hear it dry, people who know their stuff can tell the difference. I think you can run an audio signal thru the moog filters tho, but still purists claim to be able to tell the difference!

However there aren't many songs with ONLY a dry moog, and in a mix, with effects and 15 other channels running, it's pretty impressive if you can hear the difference. So no, I don't really NEED a minimoog in my rig, tho its kinda sweet if ya have one.
