Plush nightclub - how is it?
How is Plush for a music event like Armin? Without going into a lot of detail, I'm getting some fairly harsh reviews from some friends of mine who say that almost every big name electronic event they've gone to there has been ruined by various elements of the club and the crowd. Is this true?
plush isnt all terrible
it gets an occasional sketchy crowd i supposed
trance and house events get a good sized bar star crowd
but its not all horrendous
I road-tripped up in June to see Digweed and Ferry on back-to-back nights at Plush. It's not too shabby a venue; nice security, staff, good crowd, decent sound, and fairly clean. I'd head up there again for a party if someone's playing there that I'd be unable to catch here.
not a big fan of it. especially when paul van dyk plays on sunday and has to end at 12.
the staff there is totally hit and miss.
the crowd i find less friendly usually, as it seems you get a lot of people that get free tickets from thier plush friends, but dont really like the music....
all that being said, I have still seen some wicked shows there...i just prefer other venues.
somewhere in the middle
Plush is a decent venue. With the exception of that support pillar on the house-right side, it has pretty good sight lines.
I've been to worse clubs [ELEMENT in Seattle] with terrible security/staff & a really bad set-up, and I've gone to some really great venues [COMMODORE BALLROOM comes to mind].
Plus: Not a Granville Strip Club
Cons: So desperately wants to be a Granville Strip Club
Haven't been there in nearly two years though, so it may have changed since.
I heard it's full of conspiring Polish people.*
Count me in if it ever becomes a strip club though.
*NOTE: Please be advised that I know nothing about this club. Like NADA. This message was an attempt at humor. If you didn't laugh, it's your own lack of sense that's at fault.
I'm okay with it, it isn't good IMO but it isn't bad. I know about that PVD thing, he did play till 12:30 LOL, and even wanted to play longer but the security had to come up and tell him to stop.
The layout needs improvement, you got this long walk in with a bunch of space unused and then a rather small dancefloor, it's okay in general but the washrooms are horrible.
The worst part about Plush other than the slow door on big shows is that I have found that different bars in the club charge different prices. You never get to see how much which means you are getting ripped off in some way.
*edited*
Also they don't take credit cards, cash only.

No peeler joint discussion can be had without the mention of the ol No.5!
And isnt Brandi's still around?

Heh. Vancouver really isn't known for having much in the way of strip clubs... which is surprising considering we ARE a port city.
Saw a Sin City special on Vancouver and we supposedly had some of the best strip clubs around.
The place on Kingsway was called Cheetah's if I am not mistaken.
The Cobalt still has their GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS sign at the front door but I have asked and there are 3 things wrong with that sign.
It's been the only club I've been to in Vancouver, made it up there for the Digweed and Kleinenberg show. Had a blast at both. The only thing that bugs me, and I don't know if this is the club's deal or not, is that I tried to pull out some money for some beer at the ATM by the door. It didn't let me take out any, nor did it let my sister. I'm sure other people from the US have had similar problems at that ATM, but I do praise the staff there. My sister and I were worried that we were not going to be able to have cash, so we asked the staff at the door if we could leave (you couln't leave the venue) and try the ATM at he casino. The staff was fine with it, and when we got back, we didn't have to wait in line, they just moved the gates and let us in. I felt very important
Bring earplugs. I've been there where the volume is extreme -- far past damage levels.
$5 for a bottle of water!
agreed ^
im not sure if they do it on purpose or if the sound people they hire are tools, but even with standard earplugs levels can be way above acceptable, its almost like you need industrial-issued ear plugs to go to plush
best places to escape the loudness: both sides of the stage and the second level balcony
I havent been up to that balcony since 2000
