Any Israeli music fans here?
And I'm not talking about Israeli psy-trance...
I was just at the Danforth Music Hall today and found out there will be 2 Israeli concerts coming up in the next week.
1st, this Sat. night at 9:30pm is the Idan Reichel Project.

My Dad has seen them and really loved them, and said they are a must-see. Its a fusion of Hebrew, Ethiopian, & African styles of music, ballads and electronic. Tickets are $20.50- $40.50.
Next Thurs., Ethnix and Eyal Golan are there. Tickets are much higher ($65-100). I used to really love Ethnix, so I may have to bite the bullet and just go.

Is anyone else interested, or care to go together? Let me know.

its nostalgic for me since i grew up there
there is a dope punk band from israel called useless i.d.
that i used to listen to alot in high school.
Isreal has a huge punk scene that not alot of world knows about.
Nat, what was the name of the documentary we saw?

Was considering going to Idan's show but I don't think I'm going to end up going unfortunately; they'll probably be back next year.
As for Ethnix & Eyal - I wish I knew they were coming earlier than this - crap!

I can't say that I'm a huge fan, but I recently discovered a live recording of Ofra Haza at the Montreux Jazz Festival from 1990. Beyond that, well .......
There's this one song, la'roots maher (לרוץ מהר
. I lived there for a while last year, and it was always on the radio... I get nostalgia pangs every time I hear it.

Well I found out my great aunt wants to go to the Idan Reichel Project, and my cousins are going to Ethnix, so problem solved.

Still have her Shaday album on vinyl with Galbi and Im Nin' Alu. grooves are a little worn from spinning it at parties way back then. Moshic's my fav. He came to Montreal not that long ago, and I'd be 1st in line if he ever came to Toronto. |
Sorry, I should have been a little clearer. The recording came from a CD that was released on the World Music Recordings label. I don't know how widely available this CD is. I happened to luck out when I stopped by at Tower Records for their 'Going Out Of Business' sale. According to the description from the Amazon.com website, this import only release came out in 2004. 65-100 for ethnix? i remember seeing them for free on independance day shows.
