Old Skool Rap / Hip-Hop

Ive really been into hip hop and rap nowadays, at least old skool stuff. I dont really enjoy most of the new stuff. Most of them are crap in my opinion, at least for the hip hop side, but even rap has been poor.

I want to get a sense of what kind of stuff everyone likes here and maybe mention some tracks I havent heard of. Discuss!

A genius way ahead of his time ("I'm so far ahead of my time my parents havent even met yet" as he says) who was killed before he got to make a real impact. R.I.P.

You know your hip hop, Big L was a gifted lyricist who got shot in front of his building in harlem because he was mistaken for his brother. I own every unreleased track that was produced and his Big Picture album. He was one of the rare emcees who I would compare to Big Pun as far as skills go.
