Why does Lawler own it so bad?

Listening to his Wasted Promo Mix 2006

Posted by |Thrax| on Nov-16-2006 05:47:

That's not even his best.

He owns it because he makes the dance floor afraid of being eaten alive and monsters coming out from the walls.

He plays spooky shit.

if you'd like to make a call..please hang up and try agian....

friday.. we should be rockin it...

Posted by DOOMBOT on Nov-16-2006 05:50:

hehe

Yeah, I was eaten alive a couple of months ago. But I just finally got around to listening to this mix even though I've had it for a while and WOWOWOWOWOWW.

Tis all.

Lawler as of late has been very mediocre for me. Too much diva house in his sets and I just cannot stand 99.9% of all diva house tracks. I liked his Lights Out 1 & 2 comps. Lights Out 3 was decent too, especially disc 2. My only problem with disc two was that atrocious ABC track... utterly killed the vibe.

Seeing him live owns.

Lawler USED to own it. Not anymore in my opinion.

Listen to any of his essential mixes before 2003 and you'll know what i mean.

And his Homelands cd is the best mix i've heard in my life.

I LOVE Lawler's sets. They're always so unique, I can always tell when it's a Lawler set. Take this how you want, but if I'm doing drugs, Lawler is absolute insanity! I saw him at Pacha in Ibiza and that was the set of the year for me (so far anyway ). I don't know what it is about him, he just knows how to build sets that build and build and build with no particular climax, it just keeps going up and up and up

i loved Lawler up to 2004..then in 2005 i just hated his tracklists..i don't know what he's playing nowdays, is he back yet?

Posted by montana on Nov-16-2006 10:17:

i saw lawler this summer. it was the shit.

but yeh, it was during a period he left the sound of the drums and his sets & tracklistings was hurting. thankfully he started slowly go back to the drums.

I have old and new sets from him and his new stuff is just awesome. I like his older sets as well.

Diva house? When? I just saw him 3 weeks ago and I can assure you there was no diva house anywhere near that set.

Doombot, there's two wasted promo mixes from this year, one in june and one in august...both are pretty sick but i personally like the june mix better..didnt really like Viva all that much and havent heard Lights Out Vol. 3 but Vol. 2 was solid, and Nu:Breed 3 is good as well..his set @ cielo in june was bonkers

To be honest, I haven't listened to a set by him in 2006 besides his EM. I saw him live back in December of 05 and it was decent. But of the recent sets I've heard by him pardoning his EM there was way too many diva-esque tracks for my liking. I liked him better when he spun more tribal shit akin to RPO.

I'm referring to the one that opens up with John Tejada - The End Of It All .

RPO used to produce tribal?

I'm listening to this set:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/mo07hr

Steve Lawler - FUEL 10-29-2006

and im just not digging it. i have his technique figured out though, he plays very long tracks, atleast 8+min of each track, so when he transitions you dont notice it because you've been listening to the same track for so long you dont pay attention.

and i think i know what demoted means by diva house, anything with a vocal from a diva. in this set there are like 2 diva vocals in it.

i saw him in the early morning on the space terrace and he was just perfect, playing really fucked up twisted crunchy electrical noise. i can never find sets by him online that sound anything like it

I really don't care for Steve Lawler.

Yeah me and a buddy realised that about his transitions as well. He doesnt do it will all, but most. Make the mix flawless and not noticeable. And a lot of the tracks he plays are so smooth and sometimes simple but are just very driving. You think, how can the next track possibly be beter... and it always is.

thats a replay of his august wasted mix, i felt like his june mix had a better blend of tracks, especially the transitions from the ame remix of phuture bound to rej, then later to kupon's zoom in/out...really sick
