Exclamation Warning - BT DLing

A co-worker of mine got a letter from his ISP and they gave him a warning about DLing BTs. He downloaded something w/ Bitcomet on TorrentSpy. Apparently, there are some fake torrents on that site to track you or something.

I barely use TorrentSpy and I ain't gonna risk it if this is true.

BT is dead...RS is where it's at nowadays.

500 kb/s avg speed- download >>> 66 kbs avg speed that you get on BT.

i have had Rogers since i moved here. Never had any problems or got any letters and on a well seeded Torrent i get 400 to 500 KB/s and i download AND upload like you wouldnt beleive lolz.

Posted by alefort on Nov-16-2006 12:53:

I have had many coworkers receive an email from Rogers, at Paramount's Request, in regards to Torrents they were downloading. Obviously, they were movies. Think of it as you may, we all know its wrong anyways...

whatever torrent manager you use, make sure you enable encryption, if your manager does not have it, then I suggest changing programs. I have found U-Torrent to be the best!

It also does a very good job of avoiding Rogers bandwidth throttling.

As well, try to avoid public trackers, and stick with private trackers, the speeds and quality are much better.

pshh..i'm not to worried.

I mostly on download TV shows off of torrentSpy anyways...

i don't think i have watched "normal" tv in months. I love commercial free rips, no need to remember to "tape" something, and for all they know i could have recorded it with my pvr and edited it for commercials.

Not so,

Ive seen instances where they sent an email indicating a specific application which was being downloaded. ie: Adobe Photoshop.

Can you give us more info on what RS is?

Posted by Kytracid on Nov-18-2006 12:12:

RS = Rapidshare.com / Rapidshare.de

It's a file hosting service which offers ridiculously fast downloads. The catch : You either pay a monthly rate for downloadin, or you find a solution to work around problem

Either way, most of the warez being released finds its way to RS and similar file hosting sites much faster then torrents (in general).

Torrents are still the way to go if have selective taste when it comes to your downloads, but if you're after warez, movies or the latest TV shows, then RS is the way to do it.

There are tonnes of blogs, rapidshare forums etc out there which serve essentially the same function as torrent sites, except RS are direct links to files, and you don't have to worry about the hassles of BT.

edit:: I'm hesitant in giving out too much info cause I don't want this post to be the 411 on how to download stuff. Remember kids, downloading = stealing.

So make sure you delete everything you d/l within 24 to be on the right side of da law. mwhahaha...

PS. Google keywords : rapidshare.com

other file hosting services :

mediafire.com
sexuploader.com
megauploader.com
oxyshare.com
rapidshare.com
rapidshare.de

MSG me if you still can't read between the lines and i'll point you in the right direction.

My 2 cents .. RS = BAD... and so are public Torrent sites ..

if its not an invite only torrent site .. no thanks ...

besdies .. its alot easier used FlashFXP and some nice Ftps :P

I use to live on IRC...but have been out of the loop for a while..i tried using it the other day and got couldn't find anything or any good channels or what server I used to use haha...

Posted by Ni-Cd on Nov-18-2006 20:16:

Yah, i used to live on IRC as well; nothing beat an IRC channel full of insanely smart 12 year olds, their HUGE bandwidth, and FTP servers. Those days seem to have gone by the way side, though I hear some are still using that venue. I still use IRC for a bunch of things, and prefer flashfxp, though point to point transfers seem to be a thing of the past...
