407- its a scam!

So for months ive been wondering why i have been getting "non transponder fees" when ive been using my transponder. These fees arent cheap either. They started off at $1 back in 1998 but are now $7.

Anyways finally i called and found out what was going on. Unknown to anyone they "changed their policy" and now each transponder is actually assigned to each car. I had been using my dad's transponder which had worked fine for years but suddenly this isnt good enough for the highway gods.

So i called up to talk to them. I wasnt being rude or loud but merely stating why i felt that this policy was wrong and they hung up on me!

I will never again use the 407. It is a cancer that runs through the GTA. Bad enough that they charge THE HIGHEST TOLLS IN THE WORLD. But then they add on a $7 service charge EVEN THOUGH YOU ACTUALLY USED THE TRANSPONDER.

Enough!

do you have anything better to do these days then splash all this negativity on TA? I'm yet to see you post something positive.

do u have something constructive to say about this topic?

As for positivity i save that for my friends

im behind you. I think its sickening to pay hundreds of dollars a month to drive to work or wherever on tolls.

I think we are stuck with 407 fees for like 100 yrs?

Don't we have enough of paying rising gas prices, sick car insurance fees(plz Ontario gov., do it like they do in Quebec), and now tolls...

I fail to see your point.

I dont think its negativity, its raising issues to the public. Perhaps TA is not the audience to make something happen on the problem....but it does raise some awareness.

show me something that isn't a scam in some shape/form

Posted by DigDeep on Nov-16-2006 20:55:

yeah, it fucking sucks.

BUT you have a choice, pay it to ride on it.... or sit in traffic for sometimes HOURS.

for the time being, i choose to pay and ride on it..... until i move to the city, and park the car that is!

(p.s. - i used to bitch about jay's posts.... i like them now.)

no because you don't post anything constructive either! srsly, if you hate Toronto/Ontario/Canada so much, fucking leave! you complain about everything and anything

well this isn't your ranting blog, ffs's.

Posted by exstasie on Nov-16-2006 20:56:

I think paying to use a road is pointless. Isn't that what taxes are for in the first place?

I'd rather sit on the 401 then pay to drive on a highway...I just can't understand paying...

The only exception is if I were to drive my father's company car...then I have no objection at all.

i used to think the same way. And i dont mind paying for it if they tell me the price up front and i agree to pay. Its when i end up with all these bullshit surprise charges and get scammed, thats when i freak out.

If they said 10 cents a kilometre, the end. Id be fine with it.

407 is not owned by the government

i dont hate toronto/canada. I hate what is happening to it. And if everyone who had a problem just gave up, nothing would ever get accomplished would it?

In fact one of my "rants" is about how complacent canadian society has become which is the very reason we keep getting screwed over like this.

If you're concerned about high gas prices you shouldn't be looking for a Societe D'Assurance Automobile Quebec style auto insurance.... in Quebec your SAAQ premiums are added to your fuel costs. Additionally, you still need to purchase a private auto insurance policy for collision/comprehensive, and if you travel outside the province. Ultimately, you pay way more.

socialized anything is rarely the way to go when you want to save money.

The best way is properly regulated private sector delivery. But the key is in the balance struck when it comes to regulation.

The 407 is an example of privatization without proper regulation. The P3 hospital deals (which mcguinty kept dispite his "opposition" to them) is a good example of proper regulation when it comes to the private sector

I love the 407, best highway in the city.
although id never pay for it they are scammers for sure.
There was an article in the star a few weeks ago in which somebody mentioned the 407 bill collectors in his suicide note!
