UCLA police taser a student

quote:

by gamasutra
It all started when he refused to show his ID. They then grabbed him as he was leaving. He said don't touch me - resulting in the first zap.

He fell, and then they asked him to get up. He could not get up, so they tased him again. This was repeated a total of 5 times.

quote:

By this time the student had begun to walk toward the door with his backpack when an officer approached him and grabbed his arm, at which point the student told the officer to let him go. [...]

The student began to yell "get off me," repeating himself several times.

It was at this point that the officers shot the student with a Taser for the first time, causing him to fall to the floor and cry out in pain. The student also told the officers he had a medical condition.

Does anyone even care anymore? Look at how awful authority treats us in 2006. This is an extraordinary abuse of power. I can't even express outrage, it's just... too much..

That will NEVER happen as you can see, you can't beat Big brother. People like you will disappear before you can do any significant damage. Most people are fucking stupid and fail to see how bad things are.

While this is an outrageous abuse of power, everyone is going to take it lightly and forget.

maybe it was just cartman showing his authoritahh.

Posted by Jackson on Nov-16-2006 21:11:

i dont know because we don't really have university police over here...but what powers do they actually have? I mean...if i was in that crowd of students, i would have fuckin rushed those police.
If i (or anyone for that matter) had just been tazed, i'm sure it would take me atleast 3 or 4 minutes to be able to get up and walk... Not 30 seconds.

Is UCLA looking into the officers (if u call them that) that did this?

Makes me sick.

Is that before or after most of them get shot?

Sadly, most Americans in 2006 will say it's his own fault for being belligerent and not showing his ID quick enough, especially since he's an arab.

If you don't believe me, check out one of the lastest Anderson Cooper 360 blogs about Cyrus Kar, an American citizen and former Navy SEAL, who was captured by Americans in Iraq while shooting a movie on Cyrus the Great. He was in a cab where they found washing machine timers (which are used for IEDs apparently), but the driver confessed to owning the timers, not Kar. More than half of the 70 people who have responded so far think it's his own fault for being captured, held and tortured for 55 day, because he was in Iraq and is of Arab descent. Truly sickening.

lol @ you kids who say rush the police, easy to talk behind a keyboard, different story with a taser pointed at you and a red laser dot on your chest.

i agree after being tazed its not easy to just get up and walk it off. initially he may have been wrong for his attitude, but that should in no way justify the level of attack he just went through. it looks as if there is significant video footage, the best would be to get the badge numbers and names of the officers and bring it to the proper place. point being, you will not interfere with what they are doing or you'd end up just like him tazed on the floor and shaking.

definitely fucked up!

Decent quality from a camera phone...

Posted by Jackson on Nov-16-2006 21:28:

My thoughts are the same kid nyce. He may have deserved to be tazered...but only once. Not all those times!
The thing is, i know i sound like i'm trying to sound big from behind the pc...but i couldn't just stand there and watch someone scream in that much pain...i would have confronted those police armed with a video camera and a lie that i have a pacemaker.

Besides if 30 students rushed them only like 5 or so would get tazzered

Posted by Boomer187 on Nov-16-2006 21:32:

damn liberals.

Laila Gordy, a fourth-year economics student who was present in the library during the incident, said police officers threatened to shoot her with a Taser when she asked an officer for his name and his badge number.

Gordy was visibly upset by the incident and said other students were also disturbed.

That's crazy talk, you can't do that nowadays.

Posted by wizniz on Nov-16-2006 21:35:

wtf CAN you do?

that guy sticking up for him at the end, to whome the cop said "stand back or youre gonna get tasered too" to should have stood his ground. people need to confront.
they shouldve rushed as a group and whisked the guy away through the crowd mexican style

hell with them all.

I think it's fair to say the guy brought this on himself..... to a certain extent. Clearly the tazing went too far.

But if he wasn't such a prick in the first place, and lets face it, he was being a prick of monumerntal proportions, he wouldn't have gontten into a world of pain.

If a figure of authority asks me to do something I do it.

It's a good rule to live by and you end up leading a simpler life for it.

Posted by Akridrot on Nov-16-2006 21:52:

This is getting tiring.

He did want to leave, but then they grabbed him while he was leaving. When he said "Don't touch me," they then tazed him. When he said "I'm going to leave" and "I have a medical condition" while he was paralyzed on the floor, they tazed him.

You shouldn't need an ID to LEAVE a place. Come on now.

hell no, not showing ID is one thing, asking a person to leave is another, but tazing them to the floor is bullshit. the police should of used brute force to cuff him, meaning grab him by the arm and escort him out, if he resisted then he shoulda just been cuffed and gone over night.

you can't justify harming an individual for an attitude, if that was the case, people would be shot all the time in NYC.
