hahaha I saw you on msn with it ! I was wondering when you were going to post this!
First of all I respect that you take on such an awesome track !! and the fact that you get the vocals spot on!

nice subtle kick, good percussion but I suggest you pan it a little more to create space, especially in the beginning.

nice woodlike bass! suits the atmosphere very well! you hear it coming back alot these days !

nice fx and synths, totally your style

though in the first break they aren't balanced with the vocals' volume, or the vocals should be louder, or the surrounding sounds should be lower.

ahh that melody brings back memories !

sounds very thin though, just liked it seemed to sound, I can't find the original on my HD anymore.. but for a 2006 I think it's a little outdated. great percussion yet again!

pads are simply awesome through the entire track!

around 4:40 the vocals are balanced better!

I like how the melody synth runs filtered on the background, good breakbeat!

nice feeling when the kick comes back in, long breaks always work well with known melodies.

7;35 again the nice breakbeat! now the kick-back-in doesn't do it for me anymore, I think two breaks were enough very nice mixable outro by the way!!

you did a great job with this man!

thanks for the comments Anbech and Echosystem

and takkra, im very glad u find the vocals to be spot on cause i was a bit worried about that. the lead synth is definitely thin and comes from our belowed Vanguard. but seriously, i could find any other synths that fitted.

thanks again

sounds cool, good work! i really like the bassline. also the main lead could be thicken up a bit. but its fine like that. thanks for sharing.

Listening

I like the bassline, very trancy and hypnotic, although the bass changes seem a little strange to me...the vocals sound good, but they're out of sync a little.
Lead sound is ok, could be a little wider and fuller, as it's the main hook of the original.
The vocals are a great touch throughout it though.
Overall I did like it, and the breakbeat section is good. If the vocals stood out more and the lead was better then it would improve. As it is it's a good remix, but not your best

I don't usually go in this forum, but I saw this in your sig and gave it a casual listen. I have to say I think it's a great remix of Insomnia. I love the synth you used for the main melody, it has a very early-90s feel to it. Most remixes either stick with the pizzicato synth of the original or use an inappropriate synth, so top marks there. I also like the synth loop thing you have over the last peak.

I'm not sure I like how you use the vocals though. Perhaps I'm just too used to hearing the full rap and then the drop after "I can't get no sleep", but I didn't really enjoy the repetition of "Need to get some sleep/can't get no sleep". Also, as Bidor said, the lead could be a bit bigger. Insomnia is supposed to be huge anthem!

But anyway. Much better than I expected. Better than most released Insomnia remixes I've heard.

Thanks System, Bidor, and Ricky, im glad you like it.. and im especially glad you approve the main lead. i tried several lead sounds for this one, but each time i came back to the one i used, i also tried layering with several synths to make it somewhat phatter. but whatever i did, it sounded best with the thin single not layered synth i used.

the vocals simply wouldnt fit the track so i had to cut them up and spread them a little bit. and now that you mention it, maybe the need sleep/ cant get no sleep combo wasnt such a good idea afterall.

thanks again, for taking your time to listen

Yo.

Listened to your mix. Overall it's a nice remix, but it's much too plain to be a worthy Faithless remix.

More into details: the first thing I noticed was the thin kick. Because of the darkness of the track I'd choose to put in a deep one just to emphasize the atmosphere. Some off beat low percs or kick would fit in here to and make the mix have more to offer. That would also compensate the thinnish bass, which is not a bad bass, but the lows all lack backup and fatness IMO. Background sounds like the fx and pads are ok, but here is room to give the track more depth. Also some nice subtle arps would add depth. With more depth the 11m22s wouldn't take that long as well. Vocal: they don't match the tempo at all. Need to do some stretching here! Let me mention some pos things as well - Really liking the percs in it and the breakbeat does a great job. Lead sound is very good in place as it resembles the original one and gives the oldskool touch you cant miss in a these Faithless remixes.

So overall not bad at all, just a lot still to do IMO.

I agree. Very well done. You keep the same structure, but change up the elements. Has a nice flow to it.

Jay M: thanks for the feedback. i can imagine how your remix would sound if you made one

as for the vocals i am trying my hardest to ignore the bugs in them.

thanks, Polt

Either lose the vocals or stretch them, because they definitely sound out of place. Apart from that, this is a great remix, I love the sound you have going on. Play a bit more with the effects on the main lead, it sounds a tad static and dry at the moment.
The track is quite long as well, I'd introduce a couple of new sounds during and after the second breakbeat section, maybe even a new lead melody or variation. That filtered metallic arp you added sounds very good, but I feel it isn't enough, the track drags on a bit at that point.

Overall, this is a very nice effort though, thumbs up

i dont like maxi's vocals in any faithless tracks so id agree to remove them.

very cool bassline, good progressive feel to it

would maybe shorten the length of it to around 8 minutes. its a nice remix though overall the bassline really stuck with me.

good effort!

The synth work is great dude, so thumbs up, but the vocals sound off key and out of sync.

I think the lead is a bit too punchy, needs more sustain.

I agree with the vocals being out of sync, they need stretching to fit the BPM of this track.

Other than that, the track is great, the bass especially - is top notch.

Posted by chromos on Jan-18-2007 23:14:

wow i love your remix!

voices and main synth are very cool.
The voices after the break are sometimes offbeat ... but that's just cool, stretching won't help ...

The Arguement about the Bass is right ... the lows could be better.

Listening to your remix now for about 2h
