Thumbs down DJ Relik @ Area 51: The Adrenaline Room 11-17-06 Review + Pics + RANT

You guys aren't misreading the thread title and the icon. It says "DJ Relik @ Area 51," wheras it SHOULD have read, "Suzy Solar, DJ Relik & Groove Eric @ Area 51 review + pics" etc etc. Let the record also show the thumbs down is not intended for Relik but for how the night was handled.

It was handled like shit.

Tonight we were supposed to have three DJs play in the room formerly known as Amazonia, now called the Adrenaline room.

Rank 1 @ Metro...Deja Vu, anyone?

I don't know who or what happened but tonight's event was a catastrophe. The ONLY good thing about tonight: DJ Relik got to play for a few hours...Bad things....holy fuck, where do I even start?

Little to no promotion for tonight's event.
The DJ equipment in the Adrenaline room was subpar. Denon CDJs, with at least one fucked up CUE button.
An outdated, weak ass mixer.

As Relik continued on with his set, Brian and Suzy arrived from Tampa, only to have some unknown OLD FAT white lady shut the room down for reasons unknown. Talk about a mindfuck. Having a great talent like Suzy and Brian come ALL the way from central Florida only to be told they wouldn't be playing in the room WE had. Moments later, she was told she could play in the room called Allure, where um....there was an OMGWTFBBQ fiesta going on in there.

Reggaeton, 80's, 90's and everything in between. The FLTAs were going apeshit. I was LITERALLY laughing my fuckin' ass off. Suzy and Brian went to check the DJ booth. And what do ya know? NO CD decks.

NO CD DECKS. What the fuck kinda shit is that? In THIS day and age, what club DOESN'T have CD decks!?

Suzy ONLY had CDs this time around. The last I heard before departing with Relik was that Suzy would get to play in an hour, but nearly all of the FLTAs agreed that they couldn't handle an hour of the hilarious but annoying music in the Allure room/club.

Shelley (Never Say Die!) was royally pissed off, as well she should have been. Sweets, I know I told you like 3 times, but I know exactly how you felt. I felt the same way when my Rank 1 show went to hell. I'll tell you about that another time though hon, and I hope you feel better soon. We appreciate you and Jay's efforts for tonight but it just wasn't meant to be.

So of course, not only didn't Suzy get to play, but neither did Groove Eric. Suzy & Eric got screwed.

Total OMGWTFBBQ + FUBAR.

Relik played a banging opening set as always. Thanks for the ride and letting me practice before we left for the catastrophe zone.

The night was just fucked, plain and simple. I only took a handful of pics which I'll post later. I just don't feel like doing it with how aggravated I am.

TA turnout was good. Nice seeing Mel, Lis, Anthony, Richie, Manny, Nelson (Happy bday to you again, bro) Vic, Leon, Damon....if I missed anyone, my apologies but I am tired...and hungry.

Review ends....and now it's quesadilla time.

you know what, I knew some shit like this was coming. what a load of bull. I wouldn't deal with Area 51 if i were a dj. The clubs are turning to shit here. Sorry I didn't go, tired as fuck......but like I said, I had a feeling.

Posted by PatMcGroin on Nov-18-2006 13:04:

that blows. sorry we couldnt make it.

Posted by attomic on Nov-18-2006 13:13:

I knew it...

I had a feeling some kinda shite like this would happen also. That venue is done.

Damn that sucks

Posted by DarkAngel on Nov-18-2006 14:48:

Here are the few pics I took last night.

And I saved the best pic for the last. The sight that disgusted me throughout the later parts of the night.

The entrance to the Adrenaline room..........

....CLOSED.

As much as I hate to agree with you on that statement, I do.

Nearly all of the replies so far in the thread are the same: "I had a bad feeling." I also had that feeling in the beginning of the night. Something just didn't feel right.

Yes it is. It took the club staff like an hour or 2 just to bring the damn deck into the booth, and even when they did, they just connected the power. They didn't bother to hook up the RCA jacks. Relik had to use one half of the Denon CDJs (which were lame and weak) and the one CDJ-800.

Well damn.

Sorry to hear this. I stopped going to Metropolis or w.e. it wants to call itself for a while now. It agrevates me to see that place still standing. Im sorry for not going to past events, but their lack of ethics in the business makes me not want to support that place. Nothing with not supporting great TA's and Suzy who I know well deserves all my respect, but that places does not end to surprise me with all the bull. I hope you guys dont go there anymore.. its just caca. Unless we throw some PLUR underground party like the old days with no BS.

Yo, I was dissapointed for the crew specially Suzy but like I told her - it was just an off night.
Hey at least you got your drink on Suzy! Gray Goose and tonic FTW!
I'd seriously however would not do any business with them, that's 2 for 2...
poor promotion and marketing and no decent equipment? C'mon, and you want to call yourselves a "club"??

Get da fuck outta here..

Posted by av1 on Nov-18-2006 22:45:

No matter what they do with that venue (rename it, repaint it, etc.) it is apparent that the same idiots are behind the venue and all those cosmetic changes do not mean a damn thing. It is the equivalent of rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, the ship is still going down.

Suzy Solar, Eric, Relik and all their fans deserve better. Bottom line you guys should not do any more business with Metro, Area 51, the shithole, or whatever they are called this week. I think bdr suggested bringing Suzy to Blue for a proper event, and he is right. It seems Blue is much more accomodating and professional to the people they do business with, notably Eric and his party "the Fix."

So what happened after me, Relik, Lis, Anthony and Richie left? Did you stay?

i feel very luck to have been on the scene when trance was the dominant genre. shadow, the mix, space. what great times.

my question is where are the promoters for these clubs and events?
it's disappointing that these dj's aren't getting any help.

trance 4 life.

Maybe because some of these DJ's change music format?!?! even Ivano Bellini would play trance back in the days. I remember Stereo nightclub, chilli peppers, and David Padilla playing the mixnights, shadow, space etc etc.. is because music changed, different times, but I agree that it would be cool to have a resemblance of those kind of parties back.

True. When I saw Oakenfold @ Opium Garden in November '02, Ivano closed for Oakie and actually played more trance than Oakie.

Amen to that! I feel blessed that I was in the scene when there actually was a scene. So often I feel old, but it's at moments like this that I feel thankful. Suzy and Brian deserve better.
