Tune of the Year 2006: 2nd Half Nomination Period & Polling

Hi all,

I wanted to take a moment here to announce the tentative timeline for our 2nd Half of the Year Tune Nomination and 2006 TOTY Polling periods. The 2nd Half Nomination period will run for three weeks, just like the 1st Half thread did. I am leaning towards a 6 December - 27 December time period, which will give us 3 weekends to narrow down our selections. I should be done counting all the nominations within 2 or 3 days and plan to have the initial 4 polls, just like last year, open on 30 or 31 December. There will be three polling periods each lasting 10 days, allowing us to know our 2006 TOTY by 31 Jan/1 Feb. I can't wait to start reading, then listening to your nominations!

im not even going to bother, ide probably nominate a bunch of quality tracks and the ones that will win will be some Above and Beyond remixes.

Um, the polling hasn't started yet, so why are you all listing tracks right now? As far as I can tell this thread was made merely to state a tentative timeline for when the polling ends/begins.

I must admit this thread is confusing, lol. I was about to post a top 10 myself. An opening post should have no more than one sentence in MD, ppl have short attention spans around here.

Sadly, I can't even think of a tune that I feel really deserves the kinds of accolades that coincide with the notion of being considered "track of the year."

what saddens me most, is that i know ppl will put 'Put your hands up for detroit' on the top10

Banco de Gaia - Flow My Dreams, The Android Wept
Flowjob - They Are Not Alone
The Killers - When You Were Young (Jaques Lu Cont's Thin White Duke Mix)
Lab 4 - Perfect Drug
Coldcut - Walk A Mile In My Shoes
Gavin Froome - After The Rain
Thomas Bronzwaer - Shadow World

Well, this is what made me stand up and take notice the most this year, but then I did spend a great deal of that time listening to non-2006 stuff.

I'm willing to bet hardly any of these will make it to the end. (maybe Shadow World, just because more folks know it here)

My vote goes to my location =)

Ok, I'm new to this. How many tracks can I post in my list?

Posted by RJT on Nov-20-2006 19:33:

If there's even one tune I could endorse for TOTY it would absolutely have to be the Buick Project remix of Tiefschwarz - Damage, and even then I'm skeptical.

There just weren't that many tracks that really stood out head and shoulders above the rest this year for me.

Too many good solid tracks to pick a best one.

I'll agree that there were plenty of "good, solid" releases this year, but honestly, can you tell me even one that you think really stands up as a track that will be timeless? I guess that's what I think of when I think TOTY, and I don't really think I've heard one this year...

I could find a few that I will still be playing in a few years if the time is right...

You can't really tell what will stand the test of time untill that time has elapsed...

ibizzzaaa, you'll be able to select 10 songs released June-December 2006 for nomination purposes. The top 16 nomination-getters will represent the 2nd half of 2006 in January's polling.

Fair enough, and I'd agree. I guess there's just nothing that has resonated with me in the way things have in previous years.

I should note as well though, that I'm not meaning to say that I thought there were only bad tracks released this year, there were plenty of solid tunes. I guess it just seems to me that in previous years, there was always a tune I almost immediately could identify when asked what my TOTY was, and this year I can't seem to think of one.

you're right, and I apologize. I just assumed this was the nomination thread. But why a thread to tell us that polling will soon begin?

Posted by Danny Ocean on Nov-20-2006 21:36:

for me, TOTY would have to be Every - Feelin' or Sultan - Know Why (Original Mix)

there's been a few for me just depends on your tastes. I'll put some up in a bit even if im not meant to. they won't make it far but they're head & shoulders above most of what is favoured now

And what saddens me even more is that 'Put Your Hands Up For Detroit' will probably be a better track than whatever the idiots vote in at number 1 in this poll.
