Talk about bad roads...

"This is Russian Federal highway Moscow city - Yakutsk City, named Lena, nowadays. See link for pictures.

The road doesnt have asfalt surface, though it is a Federal, vital highway.

Everytime it rains the road gets paralized, these shots are made a few days before the traffic jam for 600 cars got stuck there. Hunger and lack of the fuel followed, according to the witnesses. One woman gave a born to a child right in the public bus she was riding.

Construction team afraids to appear on site because during their previous visit it was beaten by people who stuck in the jam for a few days. People breaking the locks on the trucks, in a search of food and warm cloths.

Fuel, food, firearms and steel tow-line are the things that are needed most these days on this Federal highway."

Edit:

Thats the way to enforce speed limit of max 70

I would assume that would be used to get food/vodka from trailers without asking extra questions and to make sure noone passes infront of you, since there was about 12 km traffic jam. Its the only highway that leads to that part of russia and seems like the only way to get there as well.

Looks like they have some of the same problems we do. Bad winters, biggest country in the world and relatively small taxpayers base.
Did anyone see the TV show with those two guys who went around the world on their BMW motorcycles? Some of those roads and bridges (in Siberia) make this one look like an Autobahn.

The road is that way because the way they fix the roads in Russia is they take the old asphalt off dump sand on it and then put a fresh new coat of asphalt over it, what happened there was the workers went on strike and left everything like that.

you know, Canada isn't so bad after all....

Russians can murder their politicians assassination style, but they can't pave their federal highways.

Bolivians can sell cocaine by the tons every week, but they can't build a road that would save hundreds of lives a year?

I think i'll stay here.

i dont think you realize that Russia IS the biggest country in the world with only one leader so it's hard to take care of every single thing that is wrong there. It's same thing as asking for a brand new road somewhere in yellowknife. This is taking place somewhere in the north so its hard to build a 1000km highway real quick. It takes aproximately 10years to completely finish it.
From what i've read this is not a common occurence, usually it happens in the fall when it stats to rain, during other seasons it is fine
Also from what i've read apparently they are already fixing/buiding the road there.

I was only making a funny!

What area of Russia is that anyway adn why would people even go on the road when it was raining?

its pretty much the only road that connects people that live in the area with the rest of the coutry so they have to take it
if im not mistaken this is around the middle north of russia, basically close to siberia

check the winter photos

Holy fuck, now THAT is some winter hell.

No wonder the Germans had such a hard time back in the 40s.

If you get stuck there in the winter, you're pretty much dead
