Toronto Food and Wine Show 11/24-26

http://www.foodandwineshow.ca/

Vince & I went to this last year and got pretty trashed. I recommend going Fri. afternoon if you can, before the after-work crowd shows up.

Entry is $15, and then you buy $1 sampling tickets & pay as you go. The LCBO has $3 off entry coupons at the registers, but the cheapest way in is to go to Ticketmaster and instead of ordering adult tickets, enter how many you need right below it under 'special promotions and offers' and use the code "TOLIFE" for tickets for $9.50 (incl. all fees).

I wanted to go to this last year.

Maybe I can convince my friend to go out to this Saturday afternoon once I am done work, cuz I won't be able to do it any other time of the weekend.

Thanks for the info Nat!

Gah! I would love to go to this!

I went last year on the Sunday and it was a blast! Going on the last day of the show means that they will be trying to reduce what the bring back to their warehouses...

I'll be going!

Maybe we can coordinate an outing this weekend?

Heidi- still waiting for a PM from u w/a review from the Ok Go show....

Posted by angelgirl on Nov-21-2006 01:10:

Yeah...have to get on that OK GO review. Although I hear you talked to my buddy Sam about it already Short review for now... it was FUN. Concert music wise may not have been the best I have seen but was probably one of the funniest concerts. Great energy and vibe from the whole OK GO crew from start to finish.

Not sure yet when we will be going to the show yet this weekend. 5 or 6 other couples from home are coming into town for the show and they are trying to decide what day they can get out of St. Kitts and leave the kids. Will let you know when I know more.

Last year the food was horrible. I'm hoping for much bigger things this year.

I really want to go early enough to chat with the vendors and take a proper look around without being rushed and crushed like previous years when we went Saturday night. I think we're going to go around 2 on Saturday afternoon.

Posted by MarkT on Nov-21-2006 02:59:

a few of us will be going for sure...it's definitely a fun night and a good way for n00bs to be able to try a bunch of different wines and beers without having to buy an entire bottle/case.

The food was iffy last year, I agree...some bordered on fast food, but some was pretty tasty too. I remember the food being a lot better when I went many years ago for the first time to the wine + cheese show out by the airport.

nat's suggestion of friday during the day is defintely best...though it's not *too* ridiculous at night or on saturday. Just be prepared to lineup a bit.

on a side note...I found it cruisey as hell too, for all you single boys and girls out there

If I were in T-Dot, I would go.

They just have beer festivus in Colorado....

How many tickets does one need to spend to get cocktails and food?

If it's 5 tickets for a drink and 10 tickets for food then I can't imagine it being that good from a "value" standpoint.

From what I recall, tickets are a buck each and the average wine or beer sample is 3 or 4 tickets...more for high end drinks or vintages, of course. Food ranges...and you can usually pay with cash or tickets.

it's a value in the sense that you don't have to buy a bottle to try a wine...or even pay $6-10 per glass in a restaurant...but it's not a "cheap" event, you're right.

If you're a hearty drinker and want a bit of food, I'd expect to spend $40-60 for an evening, including entrance.

it's fun...well worth the $$$, IMHO.

if ne ones going this sat. i'll be wandering around when im done work, ( just look for the smuck in the MTCC Chef uniform)

I'm also gonna be on the look out for comp passes from the head office, if i can grab ne i'll let cha'll know, first come first serve.

Hmm... now I'm taking the value more seriously...

What's the size of a sample, for say, beer... I'm wishfully thinking
a sample is a pint...

That's a good estimate.
