Confused Help: How to approach companies about sponsorships..?

How would I go about approaching companies about sponsoring my training? I honestly have NO idea, whatsoever.

The training is for riding, to eventually (I hope) get to the olympics.

I dont really know how I'd write a proposal for riding... it isn't anything like writing a business proposal.

maybe you could try contacting some athletes who already have sponsorship and asking how they created opportunities for themselves. i'm sure not all of them are going to be forthcoming but you're playing the numbers game here.

edit:
isn't there a body that governs your sport? you could try getting sponsorship info from there.

Go to a riding event. Sometimes, companies have lodges there.

Chances are those companies take interest (or at least somebody high up) into this sport and it'll be easier to get sponsorship from them.

i don't think you can really ask a company to sponsor you until you've had some massive results and are at a level of success they want to associate with.

i would say allign yourself with a reputable barn of someone in the business and already established. jay hayes is right in king city i believe, but there are tons in that area. that will get your name out in the industry, get you training on olympic caliber horses, and open the door to showing at the level you want, provided you don't piss them off (horse ppl are all a little nuts anyway....lol ).
