Trips to Europe

Who has been to Europe and what country do you think is the best to start off in if you want to do a little tour and try to see as many countries as you can? How much could you see and do in 3 weeks? What�s a good amount of spending money to have?

Italy & Greece are a must for me, but i also want to try and hit up amsterdamn or belgium too. it's expensive to travel within europe right, or no?

I've just been to Germany...awesome country. As far as travel goes, you can buy a month pass on the Eurorail for not too much and then use the trains to get around as much as you want.

3 weeks is pretty good for Europe too, of course theres enough to see for a lifetime you just have to pick and choose what you want to see most.

never been myself but i heard that ryanair is fairly cheap to fly within europe.

my hit list consist of prague, amsterdam, barcelona, ibiza, and french alps.

Ryanair is cheap, except you have to pay for having luggage & handbagage and yeah, food on the plane costs aswell and yeah. you don't get any space. and uhhm ye.

Oh my mistake, I thought the that fact that we were corresponding about the exact same thing through e-mail would suffice.

if you wanna do the tourist thing then hit italy first, go into germany (via switzerland/austria), then into france (via belgium/holland), then into the uk and fly home from there

It all depends on what you're interested in. Personally, my favorite places were Rome, Lucerne (Switzerland), London, and Florance. That said it would be a shame to not see Paris, Amsterdam or Venice while you're there. Getting to Greece can be a real drain on time unless you catch a commuter flight from somewhere in Italy as it's pretty far away from the other big centres by land and boats are fuckin' slow.

A tip from my Brother in-law.... grab a Eurorail pass (whichever class allows you a sleeping compartment) and then sleep on trains rather then hotel rooms. Sure you always have to be in a different place the next day but you can go back that night.

See, that�s the kind of advice I was looking for because I�ve never been there and I want to hear from people who have, and hear about what countries are the easiest to bop around to and which countries to go through to get to another. I would actually like to stop in Switzerland and Austria to be perfectly honest�not just travel right through.

One thing too many americans do is try and visit everything without focusing on particular countries and try to get a sense of authenticity.

While visiting all of Europe in a flash is american tourism that involves only seeing the touristy spots is all too common around the world ... New York, London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, Tokyo etc are the only big cities people usually consider visiting whenever they go to these various countries.

If you were to go to Italy try and do some of the other cities than Rome for example. Try and visit the more real aspects of countries you will be visiting!

A good starting point tends to be France or the UK. They tend to be the cheapest trans-atlantic flights points. If you want to be more central and have access to the various countries in a quicker matter France is the obvious choice but that is fairly irrelevant as going around the continent is extremely easy.


Having personally visited nearly all of Europe if I were to pick places to see I would say UK/Ireland, France, Spain/Italy, Belgium/Netherlands, Switzerland/Germany... both either or ...

If I were to recommend one country I would say Switzerland as they have it "all".



in regards to ryanair easyjet and all these companies you will get the best deals if you get the plane tickets well in advance!
Ryanair actually has deals where you fly for free but only pay airport taxes ( and obviously for the extra non inclusive services like food, luggage etc ).

I'm European, I travelled almost everywhere here, I have to say that Berlin is by far the nicest place for such a trip.
Don't hesitate to make a thread in the French board or to PM me if you want to know more about la France.

jdat, i dont want to do the mainstream stuff at all. rome would be great, and i also want to see milan.

moral, i know what u mean about greece. i should plan a trip to greece by itself huh?

You could easily do Italy and Greece in one trip but trying to hit up the netherlands, belgium or anywhere else in the north-west is going to be difficult in only 3 weeks (unless you spend very limited time in each place which is hardly sufficient).

been to europe twice...for a week each

visited paris, brussels & amsterdam (i took a train...and stopped by each city)
