Sorry for the late review - been out for the last day or so.

It had been a while since I had been to Fluid (probably 6 months). I'm not sure why I hadn't been there in so long since the venue is stylish, the sound is good, drinks reasonable and talent regular.

Jon started the night out well. His first hour eased us into the night with a nice flow of warm-up type of tunes. Opening the night is a bit of a trick - people are arriving, having cocktails and doing the "meet & greet" so the idea is to provide a nice atmosphere for this to happen - which Jon did well. The club started to fill up further and people were really enjoying the early evening track selection.

The second hour of Jon's set was a bit more up-tempo, peaking at the end of his set. The dance floor was really into it and pretty much everybody was dancing. A good crowd of TAs and non-TAs made for an enjoyable atmosphere - everybody was having a lot of fun. A few newer tracks and some favorites combined with great mixing - I enjoyed Jon's entire set. Good work Jon.

Mute & Laki started their set with Mute playing their first tune just past 12 AM. They played this one track that was a re-do of an 80s tune (male vocal) - the name escapes me right now (as do the lyrics! stupid me.) that I absolutely love. I had heard it at the Drink back in October - it caught my attention then and I was pleased to hear it played. Mute & Laki played great bumpin' tunes.

I left around 1 am (I think) since it was getting late and I had a full day on Saturday. Next time I'll be sure to stay later since Mute & Laki were just getting into it and it would have been great to hear Shaw's set.

Overall a good night night out.

Fun times..

Ive never been to Fluid before so I was very excited about the change of venue. Due to work, I missed almost the first hour of Jon Jon's set. Arrived to my type of tunes and saw a crew of friendly familiar faces right away. I enjoyed what Jon was playing and loved the mix of oldies and new tracks- Jon the flow of your sets keeps getting better, your track selection is bang on for me and its obvious that alot of thought has been put into what you're playing. You're managing to bang out the big ones in your particular fashion and still maintain a unique sound that is becoming very much your own. Great job dude.

And now on to MUTE- who ive been dying to see for awhile now. I also want to comment on how well Jon Jon's style and Mute's seem to compliment each other, perfect combination. Id love to hear more of them together. Mute was sick. From the first track onwards I adored everything he played. The latin vibe, mixed in with some dirty bongos and sassy house is why I love every set of his ive heard and he didnt let me down.

All in all, a lovely evening with good friends and great tunes.

friday was a LOT of fun, and I was really happy to see some familiar faces i hadn't seen in a long time!

both Jon's and Matt's sets were sick, even though they were different styles.. really liked the way Jon started off and set the mood for the night, and Matt was great closing it off..

the tune you guys are looking for is Hatiras - Something About You, which i've been crazy over ever since i got it last month...

the last let loose event is on dec 8, though starting early in the next year we'll be relaunching a new weekly project with a lot of familiar faces... more info in january

It's really too bad that none of the TAs stuck around for Matt's set. After all the excitement going into the night I was expecting to see a bunch of you out, but when we arrived there was not a one. Very dissappointing.

Got there to hear Laki wrapping up and was impressed. I would like to listen to him again, it's just too bad he regulars Fluid. I am not a fan of this venue. I found the door staff to be extremely rude and they really couldn't be assed about having anyone there. Also got quite a shock when I headed to the restroom. As the bar area was quite nice I was expecting decent facilities and they were DISGUSTING!!

Matt was wicked. Those that didn't stay missed out large. He closed the place up right!!

Sorry for the late review.

I had a great time at Fluid. I have been there before for MANDY but in the other room. There was some stereo problems at the beginning but that was solved quickly.

Jon Jon's set was great. I miss having some sort of CDJs at home because I don't get to hear Jon nearly enough. lol!

Dan followed with a similarily great set and the pace was kept up the entire night.

RJ and I even checked out the hip hop room and RJ got a boot in the leg for it.

My deepest apologies for not staying the entire time. Sorry Matty! I wanted to at least see Rachel and Nicola when they came from PUR. Sorry ladies.

Some guy was twirling a girl over his head to Jay-Z or something and I took the girl's boot hard in the leg...

Since when is dancing-acrobatics a part of the hip-hop scene? I thought dancing to hip-hop was about "grindin'" and "tappin' that ass"... They must have been watching "Dancing with the Stars" or something before hand.

Forgiven

I had some piccies in my bag for you from the military ball... will bring them on Sat at Morillo!!

Sorry we missed Mute and Jon Jon and only saw a bit of Laki - very difficult when there are 2 places to be at but we made it! I was disappointed with the venue, absolutely I was, especially when we get treated so well at other places, guess we are spolit. Doesn't mean a reflection on the talent though.

I propose a 'welcome to 2007' gig with all our fav TA djs playing sets at Backpackers from early evening onwards... the weekend after new year is always poo so this would be something to look forward to.... boys?

These were still at it at 1.30... that's a work out and a half... made going to the cashpoint like taking your life into your own hands.

Great job Jon, what i noticed in particular about your set was that the tunes you were playing were very fitting for what was happening in the room at the time. As people started arriving people were in various stages of party mode. Particularly as your set was getting into its second half you could boogie down on the dance floor or do a little more socializing, and the tunes were fitting of either one.

After my first trip to fluid, I would certainly head back.
