Allied Nations - Warm Music for Cool Cities - [Mellow] - Fall 2006

This needed to be done! I am NOT a winter person and Montreal is starting to get mighty cold! (Apparently its only going to get colder... ) These tunes have been keeping me warm over the last couple of weeks and I figured I'd throw em together for some other people to listen to. I did this mix in Acid and by no means a testament to anything technical... I mix chillout the way I like to hear chillout, full songs but no silence in between. There are some gorgeous groovin' tunes on here props to all these artists. I think a lot of you will really enjoy them Have a listen and let me know what you think, I really like to know which tunes get people... These all got me in one way or another and it's nice to be able to share them with you guys.

Cheers!

1. Herbert - About This Time Each Day
2. Herbert - Addiction

Same order as the album, brilliant music.

3. Tryad - My Piano Sings (Part 4)(With Joana Smith)
New find, has grown on me quickly.

4. Karma - Carte Blanche
More lovely pianos...

5. Skye - Stop Complaining
Off Skye's new solo album, she really has an amazing voice.

6. Nach Scratch - Basado en Hechos Reales
One of my favorite jams ever...

7. Bonobo - Something (Longer) for Windy
Great all round tune here and a catchy riff.

8. Blockhead - A New Day
Gotta love that harmonica.

9. Tycho - Sunrise Projector
Amazing production, sounds perfect.

10 Lemongrass - Once Along the Way
One of my favorite artists, this one doesn't dissapoint.

11. Mum - Green Grass of Tunnel
Words aren't going to be able to describe this one.

12. I'm Not A Gun - Long Afternoon
Great smooth prog rock, thank you Mr. Tejada.

13. Telepopmusik - Last Train to Wherever
Easily one of the best things released last year.

14. Si Schroeder - Lavendermist
What a cool bassline.

15. Guitar - Wo Die Strassen Schone Namen Tragen
Epic. I don't understand the words, but the title means, "Where the Streets Have Pretty Names"

Looks like this is gonna be getting a fair amount of interest in this forum and the DJ promotion forum... I know a lot of you MTLTAs have difficulty listening to anything which isn't 120-130 four to the floor, and if you do decide to download this, I can only hope you'll be able to get into it.

Cheers guys!

Will listen to this monday, come back with review

Posted by LiGHT78 on Nov-27-2006 02:11:

Just finished listening.

Overall I like it Greg! The beginning was a tad weird...really didn't like that spanish rap and a couple of those songs, but in the second half it got quite nice. Super chill. It got me in a sort of reflective mood. Very well done.

Heh, yeah including that particular tune was a little selfish.. but fuck it. The Tryad tune is also a little shifty... I bet they'll grow on you...

Ya nice work Greg. Im still listing to it at 40 mins, have been really enjoying it. I especially liked the 3rd track, and it got better from there on out. I would like to hear more of this for my chill out sundays.

You don't have to be deep underground in a music scene to appreciate music... just telling me you like it or dont like it, or like this track and not that one is really all you have to do... it's more about just sharin' some quality downtempo jams .

the mix is veryy nice to chill... when u need to just relax and get lil bit away from those hard tunes this perfect to relax.

Very nice Greg !

Thanks a lot bro, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Some insight for people who are looking for the more traditional housey mix...

My reply to another poster's comments in the DJ Promotion Forum:

I'll keep an eye out for the next mix you provide. Also, hope you adjust to the cold, it gets as low as -30 (dont be surprised to get -40-50 with the windchill) while in Montreal!

if you have to STOP this mix because there aren't "transitions" then this mix isn't for you It's not about the mixes mate, it's about the tunes and the overall flow. I'm sorry it's not your typical house/trance etc mix - it's chillout the way I like it. It's not a technically amazing mix, as I stated. I wasn't going for anything like that at all. It's just some tunes to kick it to.

Sorry to dissapoint.

It's not the typical mix found on TA, but I think some of you guys might really dig it if you open your ears

Thanks a lot, the third tune is a gem I agree. I have a lot of fun putting mixes like this together, seeing as how this one is being well recieved, I think I'll do another one next month as well. If you are interested in hearing more, I did another one after I left Ibiza this summer.Click here to check it out.

Wicked! I'm interested in your thoughts about it!

Ya werd sick set, cause it has blockhead, bonobo, and skye.
And to whoever said they had to stop listening to it cause of not having proper trasitions and mixing. stfu its an ambient/chill mix i dont see how you beat match songs with no beat...

Posted by nick84 on Nov-28-2006 19:52:

yo man i've been meaning to post a legit comment on your mix but didnt have the chance yet... the tracklist is really well put together and definitely gets the point across.. the hip hop was a nice little addition too, added a bit of a beat to the whole thing but was still chill.. nice work bro
