I'm sorry but having spent two winters in Halifax I can say that windchill makes all the difference. No matter how cold it is your body creates a layer of warmth around it which gives you at least some comfort. With piercing wind you'll feel as if you were naked.

I'll take -20 and no wind over -10 with wind any day.

Asshole school board made us go to school today. Half the class wasn't even there.

i think they should just shut down all high schools till thursday when it all goes away. not only its dangerous (kids and teachers can slip on ice, hurt themselves) but not everyone in this city owns a winter coat. kids jay walk all the time, drivers can run over them. missing couple of days of high school/elementary school really isn't going to make a huge difference in their education.

private schools are smart, they close down.

That's silly. I doubt they can require that, because that means that you are required to go up there anyways, risking your safety (or so the argument might go).

I'm glad that I'm on co-op right now because SFU Surrey is open today- even though one of the big highway buses that I would have had to take was stuck just down the road earlier today.

And I can say that living in Calgary for coming on close to 20 years... I know a bit about what winter.. Windchill is BS (IMO).. The only time windchill comes into play is when there is serious humidity involved (which is why Halifax would be bad).. and well, Calgary, yea it is about as dry as a popcorn fart (which are dry btw)...

Behold, my arse.

ah snow we love you
reminds me of motheland where we had to dig tunnels regularly in order to leave the house in the winter
childhood memories sigh....
such wonderful happy moments
I should learn how to ski or snowboard soon though...

well, the class is actually at the downtown campus, which was open today despite all classes being cancelled. but still, what if bunch of students had to spend hours shoveling away the snow or sitting without electricity for the last two days. its just mean making us go out there

Posted by apri_peel on Nov-28-2006 20:09:

there are two things in vancouver that bother me when its snowing:
1. people who don't know how to drive in the snow but think they either can or that it's not any different from regular driving,
and
2. lack of snow plows and salt trucks

Posted by makija on Nov-28-2006 20:36:

yep its hiting us hard today too its about 20 cms already and people are dicks on the road ! and for me it doesnt help that i got rear wheel drive car soooo YA snow officialy sucks for me !

Posted by disko-kandi on Nov-28-2006 21:14:

aaaaaaaaaawe the noise of the leafblower is killing me outside my house today!! hehehe!

don't worry about it guys ~ here in TO, even with the slightest drizzle of rain there's pile-ups of cars & traffic jams like you won't believe. yep, people we DO live in canada! no kidding! learn to DRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE dammit!!! &#^$*#*&* grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....

Posted by apri_peel on Nov-28-2006 22:15:

i still think BC drivers are some of the worst in canada
in quebec driver's ed lessons are good and regulations are quite strict

i heard in ontario its pretty fckin hard to pass the test too

in BC ive heard some terrible stories of driver's ed. when my friend took the lessons, her instructor didnt even tell her what the side mirrors were for!! then you've got the cocky assholes in their lowered cars cutting people off in the rain and snow, the really bad middle-aged asian drivers (im not being stereotypical, but i swear they are just really bad), and then the mucho adrenaline pumped everybody else trying to get places, and i could go on forever

[/end rant]

Posted by SolemnThirsty on Nov-28-2006 22:46:

it's the damn wind chill that cut right throught you! i'm moving down to vancouver next week and i was hoping for golf weather but i guess it ain't happening.
