Why is some epic trance recorded at 135 BPM?
Epic trance sounds so crappy at this slow speed!
the two best example are Romanthony - Never Fuck (PVD Remix) and AVB's Perpetous Dreamer - Dust.WAY (Rising Star Mix) both recorded at 135.
you have increase the pitch by 6% till it sounds good. progressive trance should be recorded at 135 or less. all epic trance should be at least 140.
don't be such a pussy and speed it up then
I agree......keep it at 135bpm

want speed, go listen to speedcore (200bmp or more)
but seriously, i think most trance records are just fine
No........speedcore is the devil's music, i'm told ppl use it in torture.........noooooooooooooooooooooooo.
excite idiot of the day 135 bpm on technics will go to 145 bpm easy u moron whats 8% of 135 ey 10.8bpm u can add on to 135bpm records giving u above 145 bpm silly bastard u cant count how u gonna dj
sorry i'm being a twat
i have no problem with it being recorded at 135bpm. generally, i like to listen to mixes around 139-143bpm anyway. i don't like it too fast anymore with exceptions to the odd ones like energy 2000.
coming from a hardcore background I like a lot of pace in my trance, I can do it upto 160bpm but as a rule I use 145 as my tempo, its amazing how much better some tunes can sound when faster, try Ferry's Punk @ 145, its amazing
plus Svenson & gielen twisted @ 150 sounds mental
ahm. I have to say. I think trance beyond 139 bpm sounds a bit slow, although i cant hear which is 138 and which is 140. But i think slower than 135 it should be more progressiv or another style
first of all....SPEECORE KICKS ASS!!! ( anyone agrees??)
and i think all dance music should be AT LEAST 143...
i personnally think that AVB spins too slow
First of all, Excite, you're completely right.
Like you, I've also noticed that a lot of Epic Trance is recorded at 135-136 bpm, which is a little too slow for me (and many others).
The reason why it's done, I think, is because it's assumed that DJ's will be speeding up their records to the level they want. Now, if a song was recorded at 142, some people would have to slow it down, and most producers realize that slowing down a record is much worse than speeding it up. It just works one way. So producers err on the slow side, and let DJ's make the track as fast as they want.
That's what I think.
Also, you should be able to get a 135 song to spin at 145 on your Technics, it's fairly common. In Tunnel Trance Force 16, DJ Dean speeds up the 135-BPM "R.U.F.F. Cuts" by Axel Konrad to 146 BPM.
Listening at 135 is fine, I don't see what the problem is...

on technics, you can tweak the pitch control, i forgot how, but you can change it from 4% all the way up to 15%, i did it so long ago that i forgot but i put mine up to 10% so yea,
To me, it just depends on the TRACK I'm listening to. Most of Ferry Corsten's live mix on 2000/04/29 (you'll never stop hearing about this from me) wouldn't sound good if the speed/pitch were slowed down by 5% to the speed/pitch that the tracks were originally recorded. I DL'd some of those tracks that were played seperate and I didn't like the sound I got so, I sped all of them up by 5% and it matches what I originally heard. Sometimes, you have to do this to save space for a CD. Technique - Sun is Shinning didn't sound right to me in Tiesto @ ? (It was track 6) because it was sped up by 5%. I'm used to hearing that track at it's original speed/pitch. So, the bottom line is, on some tracks speed it up can sound better and other times, it just doesn't sound good (to me)...

I LOVE my music at 125bpm-130bpm, but then again its progressive house...
efm80
avb - communication is around 135bpm isnt it??
sounds fine to me
and funky house kicks arse... a bit of diversity never hurt no-one
interesting... just speed the sucker up if you want to go mental. thats what i do sometimes.
What is this guy on about?! If you pitch up a record at 135 bpm by 6%, it will be playing at 143bpm- which will shift up the entire key of the record by 1 semitone and also aound pretty fast. This can really fuck your mixes up unless you know what you're doing. When mixing, records at 135bpm are really handy for changing the tempo and key (and therefore mood) of a set, so I disagree that everything should be recorded at 140bpm.
I think 135's pretty ok.. even for epic. I mean, some tracks are meant to be played slowwer.. like vocal-filled ones.

I guess in your case it's just that you get used to listening to songs one way and when you hear them in a different key it seems strange. Yeah, just lift the platter up. There's a little screw thing that controls the pitch, just turn it. |
