pvd's mystery box!!!

may have been covered before but anyone know wtf this is:

ive seen pvd use this thing at all his shows this year...he doesnt touch it and it just blinks different color patterns. any idea what this is???

I have no clue what it is. I see that it has 36 buttons or dials (the round things). I am going to guess it is either some sort of midi device or audio interface.

I have no Idea
would like to know also =)

Might it have something to do with equalization? Could it be some fancy control interfact for ableton perhaps?

Posted by SPAWNmaster on Nov-28-2006 04:45:

the thing is he doesnt touch it or look at it during his sets and 2 out 3 times that i saw him this year it was nearly out of site...it just makes color patterns of blue/yellow/red blinking lights below each button/dial/whatevertheyare. someone suggested its an audio interface of some sort but that big? might it be a patch bay of some sort? when i saw it thursday it didnt look like anything connected to it from the top or the back (except for possibly a USB or power cable).

Maybe it is just a box thing he made in shop class and decided to bring it to show it off to everyone just to make them wonder what the hell it is???

Interesting, there is a fader on the right with 4 knobs on top of it. Then 8 buttons on the side. There is no brand logo on it. It might be a custom-made midi controller. I think a professionally made product would have an exterior casing that flows as one. Notice the two different side panels.

look like midi encoders to me, maybe custom made like sasha's controller?

Yeah, but even if we could deduce that, what the heck is it for? It doesn't seem to serve any noticeable purpose - especially if he never touches it.

good question, so he never touches it through out his whole set?

Posted by DOOMBOT on Nov-28-2006 06:22:

Just an extra device he has in his setup to make it look like he is doing more then he really is.

wtf mate?

"wha' is it mon?"

Posted by Tony Morello on Nov-28-2006 09:09:

it could be a sound processor, in addition to the club's own

colours the sound a bit perhaps

something he'd set before the night started, make his sets punch better in different environments

just a guess

Prolly full of sausages.

Whatever it is, it sure does look custom made as there's no visible text on it anywhere.

...and looking at other pics from the same event, there's only 1 (or 2 at most) wires going to it.

Yeah along those lines - I reckon it's some kind of ceramic hob, so he can fry up some burgers during his set if he gets peckish.

i dont believe that for a second, why would he have one custom made when he can just get one of these...

see the thread at aldj; its an arcade style controller for launching clips from ableton (those are buttons)

if he has the xone 3d for christs sake AND an m-audio trigger finger why would he need 36 trigger pads on a massive box and never even use it any of his shows?
