Shame / Disagreement Oakie at Planeta bar rio : Houston,TX

I've been listening to electronica and especially trance for a while now.But i just recently got into going to concerts.I went to see Oakenfold in Houston,TX last week.It was my first Oakenfold show and i was pretty dissapointed with him.His song selection and his mixing skills i just thought were lame. Not saying that i can do better or anything.I was expecting more of the skill and song choice he showed putting together his Creamfields album.Did anyone else here go to this show and maybe have also gone to other shows of his years ago that can give me a good comparison of Oakie now and Oakie then? Not that i didn't enjoy going to his concert. It's just i was expecting so much more from the DJ that put together Tranceport and Another world.I was hoping for A Resident two years at Cream tipe of sound. But i heard he got worse since the first artist album.I was so much more impressed by seeing Tiesto in Austin earlier this year.

you gotta be fckn kidding me. ok 1 thing about oakenfold that the real aficionados already know and the others dont is that oakenfold has a BROOOOOOAAAAD RANGE of sound. first he did house. then goa trance
then off the island of ibiza he made trance ( now known as progressive trance/house) then he got more progressive then he got poppy mainstream then this then that.

this man has gave the scene its original sound track. a man who has djing since ive been alive and made a damn good living out of it should deserve more respect. u cant go to a depeche mode concert expecting them to play all their new shit. i mean those guys have been around for ever and its up to the to play to the sound they feel

sry i may be young but i know my oakie sounds better than anyone else i know. i liked his set. very oldschool trance stuff. and some of the new stuff. when i got to hang wit him he was in the best mood ive ever seen him in houston. hes really great guy when nothing goes wrong. thank you planeta bar rio for being sucha great damn near flawless venue !!!

as for tiesto...i cant really say i enjoyed the show. i was back stage the whole time... and he played his new stuff... and some old remixess... i cant really say i was captivated. but hes a kool guy as well. mad respect for the work hes put in.

idk man like i said. u cannot pigeon hole oakenfold to one sound. hes so damn diverse and whatever sound he may be into @ the moment hes doin it full blast.

and if u go to see anyone expecting them to play one thing or stick to one genre youll always let yourself down. oakenfold didnt let anyone down.

personally i wish he would have dropped some damn another world tracks on there. or open with one of the songs that were on that cd.

ne ways who else feels the same ? who else wants to attack me with black cat quetes !?!?

I gotta agree with you Lizandro. You gotta give the man props for what he's done. Ive been spinning for a little over 2 years now and its not easy what those guys do. Ive always dreamed of becoming someone like Armin or PVD, but fuck, that is alotta work and time to be putting into music. In fact, I dont even know how Armin does it with school + asot's and gigs. Last thing I heard he was still in school for Law in Holland.

I can understand where surf is coming from though. There has been a lot of mainstream business being put in by these dj's and its making us think they are slowly deteriorating in the trance scene. But thats not always true. Last time Oakey came to houston and I saw him, I didnt go in there expecting a TranceEnergy 2006 event, or Armin Only kinda shit. I know how Oakey's gonna perform. I either go there just to watch the guy go at it with the tables, or I go watch him just to show my support, and thank him for being part of the influence that introduced me into trance music. I would definitly never condone Oakey's work....unless he starts going into rap and tries to be like Eminem.

I've seen Oakenfold 3 or 4 times, each time he didn't do anything for me. I've never had a problem with his mixing, his track selection just doesn't do it for me. Some people really dig his material so it all boils down to personal taste.

Nice job opening Lizandro.

Hey Matthias did you ever get to see him in 98'-2000?

Posted by Carlos Pereira on Nov-28-2006 07:03:

Hey Surf...did you go see Jason Nireby of Newport this summer? He was at Surfside. By the way, what kinda board you have?

I think that is what I like about it. It somewhat defies boundaries and I like tracks that tend to do that. Nick is getting pretty good at it too.

NICE! Ever since that polyurethane inner-core stuff came out for those boards Ive always wanted to buy one. I ripped on my friends board last summer and i think it may have been Grime-shaped. I'm still stuck on the old school Gordon & Smith 8 footer

hey watch ESPN on the 8th! All eyes will be on Hawaii's North Shore on December 8 for the start of the 36th Pipe Masters contest. I plan on watching this live hopefully if there is some good swell this year. Hope to see all my favorite pros dropping in on bombs out at bonzai pipeline!

fucking Andy Irons and Kelly Slater!!!!!!!! i cant wait to see that bro. Slater beat Irons in florida last month and took the title

I'm pretty sure i got to see you play lizandro. There were three djs i saw up there before Oakie. It was around 9:45.Hey so when's your next show? You opened up for PVD before? That must have been sweet! Was it the last time he came to houston?I missed that one.Heard it was awesome.

Posted by Lizandrooo on Nov-29-2006 05:43:

everytime pvd comes to houston for the past 2 years ive always opened. as for my next show i dont know i recently got a call from a buddy of mine who loved my mix cd of when i played @ the pvd vip and he wanted me to be a resident dj playing prog n stuff on sundays @ xo. i gave it somethought and if i were to push this out n network it right it would be a success... yet im gonna have to fill it with fresh talent every week... since sundays tend to be downtime for somepeople... but id be dropping some slammin ass tracks tho i got a few things up my sleeve.

im gladd u actually saw me play surf. i got off stage @ 1005 or so. so u actually did get to see me !!! we should kick it and have a few drinks @ the next show, ill come up with some witte insults of your mother. jk hah !
