So, Im moving to Ottawa

Rent is a lot of money , and I dont have a job yet(just graduated). So I am moving"back home" with the rents, although they've only been in Ottawa for a year and half now. Ive got some job stuff on the burners here so I might be back in the new year . In many ways I hope I come back here and in others I want to stay living in Ottawa lol cheap lol save money.

Plus with my dad being sick itll be nice to spend some time with him. *I did post, but as a reminder he was diagnosed with ALS (lou gehrigs disease)*

I enjoy Ottawa quite a bit. Much nicer pace to that city although the drivers are horrid! WAY worse than here. It would be nice to have a solid winter too

So ya. Ive been in Sauga for 20+yrs . Itll be wierd living in another city (although I may be back) and itll suck being away from my g/f.
Itll also suck missing the Proom and downtown although Ottawa has some stuff to offer I find its more of a house feel to the place.

I hope to be back in the GTA sooner than later. Ill be back and forth though so hopefully I can make it out to some events. Its been great meeting many of you and partying. (Im not leaving the board or anything), just saying

Have fun in Ottawa. Enjoy the change of pace and the journey.

All the best with your dad.

I wish you the best of luck and hope to see you return to TO in the near future.

Don't think I've ever met you, but Best Wishes to your dad. I just moved to Alberta for similar reasons. Actually grew up in Ottawa, it's alright I guess if you are new to it lol I find it SO boring! Go to Hull/Gatineau for good strip clubs though, that's always a good time

Posted by kotsy on Nov-28-2006 07:38:

Best of luck to you. Hope to see you back soon.

enjoy ottawa.. sometimes it gets boring.. but there are a lot of small / hidden gems of 'raves/parties' and cafes/bistros that can be enjoyable with friends.

around 20 of us torontonians are heading up there in January for some Citrus Orange trance/techno thing. you should come!

all the best to you / your family!

(ps: dammit, you can have Beaver Tails anytime you want now. /goes through withdrawl from those sugary treats)

Killaloe Sunrise FTW!

Have a good time in Ottawa. Most people say "Ewww, it's so boring!" But I think Ottawa is a nice city. I love the fact that it's not covered in highrise buildings. There's the Experimental Farm, Hogsback Park, Rideau Canal, etc.. And J00F has a residency at Surface...what more could you ask for?!

Good luck, Have fun.

Best wishes to you Dad.

Katie is right, Ottawa has a lot to offer. You'll make the best out of it.

Oooh a fresh change of scenery for you and your family... with your daddy poorly, it will be a welcome change I am sure. Make the most of it hun, I am sure that in many ways, Ottawa will be more fun as it is new - trust me, new is good

And you can always come back, that's what I told myself....

Never met, but best luck to your father.
I've been looking to move to Ottawa before, but it fell through. There is not as much job availability in the IT/computer industry and for those reasons I chose to stay, but I would love to live there. Nice clean, friendly city.

Welcome !!

Its great to have a TOTA in Ottawa !! There isnt much going on here as you know, but there is always Montreal !! Very housey feel as you mentioned.

You are excited for a solid winter? Ha. I will ask you that again in March, lol.

Ottawa is a great place to live. Have fun. Winterlude isn't that far away! As for the drivers, the crazy ones are from Hull/Montreal.

those crazy quebecois

welcome to the far suburbs

stay indoors as much as possible while you're here in the months of Jan, Feb, Mar and parts of Aug (humidity). Because this boring city is basically strip malls, big box stores and family restaurants, Ottawa is great for saving money, more to spend for trips to Montreal.. only two hours away. 'Ripper joints are influenced by the proximity to Quebec.. so you draw your own conclusions

You'll be surprised at how busy the nightlife is here, esp in the Market and Elgin streets. You can also travel from suburb to downtown in 20 mins easy and you won't pay more than $5 cover at clubs. EDM concerts prices range from $15-20 to see a top dj at Club Heaven.

I lived in Ottawa/Gatineau for 6 years (Go Gee Gees!). Winters are brutal, but ice skating on the canal has given me the most memorable (and affordable) dates.

If you have Ontario plates, slow your a55 down when you cross over to Hull/Gatineau. They love to ticket Ontario drivers like flies on sh!t. They can even ticket your car without leaving a ticket on your wiper, eventually getting guilty verdicts for missed court dates you never got (long story).

La Pigale on Boul. Greber is always a good choice, and I think they allow you to touch now (in champagne rooms) that the laws in Quebec have loosened up... as loose as the French Canadian girls in Hull's clubbing district.

Ive been going to Ottawa for years actually. My bro and sis go to school there, and my rents have been there for over a year and I have visited them frequently. I LOVE the winter! *yes I do* Im kinda sick of all the whiners about it lately
Been over to quebec lots(top karting w00t! ) , chelsea, golf, skiing etc. Never had any issues with the cops though. I actually think the city is great. The nightlife is decent but like I mentioned(and others) its more house then anything else and typical university bar stuff. Montreal is close but not close enough

Ive already been to an assortment of places to party (heaven, surface, cabin(ya i know) etc etc etc.)

It sucks because i want to save money and spend some time with my dad, but Id really like to stay in the GTA. So for now my stuff is being stored and Im moving there. Where I end up in a month -2 months really depends on where I land a job. (Ive got a better shot of getting one in the GTA).

Packing sucks btw!

lol that's pretty damn maniacal. Couple of times, forget the highway you take (7 or something...) there are stretches with no lights and absolutely no cars whatsoever. You can literally shoot down doing around 150 to 160km/h. Not the safest thing to do in the middle of the night though.

if I ran into a busload of children I would be dead first, the bus would stay intact

we were doing 170-175 me and an other guy who were going at the same speed, we kept switching positions depending on traffic.

good times.
