Spirituality and Raving - Vision TV

I got this PM yesterday and whilst I don't think I am applicable in many ways, I offered to post this request for those of you who feel you may have a story or experience to share...

Hey Rachel,
My name is Layal. I got your email through the tranceaddict webpage. The reason I am emailing you is because I am researching a story idea on whether or not a spiritual experiences can be found through raving, trance music and ecstasy. I am an assistant producer for 360 Vision, a current affairs show that explores spirituality and faith issues on Vision TV, a multifaith network in Canada. I have also been to Guv several times and the Comfort Zone (once so far) so I'm pursuing something I have experienced myself.

I am basically looking for people, particularly women and visible minorities, who would be willing to share their experiences on-camera. I am searching for people who regularly experience mystical experiences through raving as well as those who would say that there is nothing spiritual to be found in the scene. I am not sure if you are interested, but I would also really appreciate it if you could pass this along to friends who may be. Thanks very much!

She has registered on here as Layal1 so can be contacted through PM or this thread.

LOL... can spirituality be attained through raving? Gee, I wonder. What do you think tribal cultures do around camp fires? Bang on the drum and rave. What we do is little more than that, on a larger scale. Of course spirituality can be realized through raving - thats what I've been experiencing for years. Nothing new there.

However, where this makes a crucial mistake is where people go on camera and summarize their "mystical experience". Anyone who has had one, truly, knows that any attempt to put it into words is going to come up far short, and end up trite and pathetic - painting it with a stigma that highlighted the childishness of the first rave boom.

No thanks

it would be an interesting show to watch, in order to get a good discription of peoples mystical experiances, the show must interview people who know about the subject. In the eRising documentry, the older speakers (Phds, Shulgin, Therapists) realy did a good job at defining the experiance but the younger once (ravers) make it seem like a party thing and nothng more.

"basically looking for people, particularly women and visible minorities"

hey my name's Layal - I'm basically looking for anyone who has an interesting experience to share but I've already included two friends who are both white, males so I'm trying to diversify a little...

also we could hide the identity of the person who was willing to share their experience - although that might be tricky because we would also need to get a visual picture of the experience
(ie. dancing in club)

* raving = going to a club that plays electronic music

My friends and I often go raving on Friday or Saturday nights. Actually - for the last number of years - almost every other weekend we have gone raving at one of Toronto's finer venues.

Some nights are just an average night out - but when a big DJ comes to town or a special event happens (long-weekend, etc) - there is extra electricity and excitement in the air.

On these special weekends, pretty much without fail, at some point during the night we each have some sort of mystical experience - moments of absolute enlightenment, moments of overwhelming fun, moments of total connection, moments of heightened spirituality, moments of personal reflection, moments of hands in the air, moments of feet on the floor. Some moments more intense than others.

I have found that these mystical experiences tend to happen in the early morning as there is something very magikal about daybreak. It is at this time that many are most receptive and open to experiential moments/events.

The early morning is the magik. It is when the good tunes are played. It is when the real party happens.

And thus EM3T was born...

Everytime I go out to a club I have a mystical experiance of sorts, but I wouldn't call it spiritual. There's no God involved even if many of us do call CZ church. There is a connection to a deeper feeling though, somewhere in the pit of your being. I can't put it into words, I can only feel it. It's primal. I don't think it's the drugs either, I think it's a combination of the music and the crowd. I definately have a stronger experiance in certain crowds with certain music then others.

I'd be willing to be on your show but I'm a white male so you may not be interested, that and I probably won't say what you want to hear. I'm not a faith kind of person, I don't believe in anything for which there is no concrete evidance. The best I can ever do is be open to the possibility.

I'm a south asian female but there's no way I'd appear on camera and I don't think any of this is spiritual or even mystical. It's just plain fun!

...somewhere...somehow...the magik has been lost

RIP ARIA

the magik as we know it cannot be captured on film. it's in your heart.

Everyone knows you'll get a much more mystical or spiritual experience when you take LSD or shrooms compared to E at these parties.

"Turn on, tune in and drop out" as you meditate and ask Timothy Leary on the other side...

Exploitation of TOTA drug users!!!

whats the diff between a black person at a party and white person?

just wondering since we are supposed to be all "equal"

Posted by tatgirl on Dec-01-2006 03:24:

Layal- I think you should definitely post this question with the psytrance or Promise communities- they are definitely more in touch w/their spiritual sides, thats for sure- those crazy hippies, lol.
