How do I eat smart on a budget? I'm wasting money here.. and starving
Any suggestion for cost-efficient (not just cheap) foods? Or foods that are quick and easy to make. I'm really wasting money buying fast food/Subway from outside all the time. It sucks when you can't count on mom to cook for you and you have to get your own food.
I'm no cook.
What I already know:
-Spaghetti is a good one, but that can get bland when I eat it too much.
-Chef Boyardee is ok
-Ramen noodles/soup in a cup: SO PLAIN AND UNSATISFYING.
I want more variety, I am so tired of eating the same things all the time.
Suggest brands, share tips and recipes, etc..

- frozen pizzas
- frozen meals in a bag (Contessa & Barilla make some good ones)
- hamburger helper, mac & cheese, boxed meals, etc...
but if you really wanna go cost-efficient, you're better off making your own meals from scratch. mexican food is pretty easy (enchiladas, tacos, burritos) as well as italian (pasta + garlic bread + salad)... just figure out what you like and try to collect some recipes. even if you grocery shop once per week and keep your fridge and cabinets stocked, you'll probably spend less than you would if you're eating out 10x per week.

DIY macaroni cheese! Make a batch freeze the rest bingo easy. Put some form of spicy sausage in it to make it more interesting or ham.
Just melt a measure of butter put in a measure of flour (that a roux btw), slowly put in milk until it gets a bit thinner than you want the final sauce. Then dump in loads of cheese and salt, then add already cooked macaroni (always pasta to sauce never the other way round).
I used to put in smoked sausge too. But you can make huge amounts for pretty much the price of the cheese, and freeze it in little bags for microwaving later.

taco bell
Enchiladas:
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef or chicken
1 jar sweet salsa (Pineapple/Peach)
1 jar (or less) of any other salsa
1 bunch Cilantro (1/2 Chopped)
1 bundle Green Onion (Chopped)
1 Bell Pepper (1/2 Chopped, 1/2 Fresh)
1 Can Enchilada Sauce
1 Can Black/Refried Beans
1 Cheese (Any kind you want - I use Pepper Jack) (Cut into slices)
1 Package large burrito wraps.
Oven safe plates/pan
Directions:
1. Begin to brown meat in frying pan on the stove top.
2. Begin warming beans on the stove
3. Add some chopped pepper, green onion, cilantro, and jar of sweet salsa (You can also add spicy salsa's or other peppers, really whatever you'd like, but the sweet salsa's really give you a good flavor) to the beef.
4. Cook meat until the fat/liquids from salsa are reduced down, and the meat is sufficiently browned.
5. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
6. On an oven safe plate, fill wrap with a bit of meat, beans, and cheese, and wrap up burrito/enchilada on the center of the plate.
7. Place as much cheese on top as you'd like (I generally put 4-5 pieces 1.5" inch by 2.5-3" inch pieces.)
8. Cover in enchilada sauce.
9. Bake in oven until cheese is melty.
10. Remove from oven, garnish with salsa, fresh onion, peppers or anything else and enjoy.
You should be able to do this whole meal for between 12-16 bucks, and it will feed you a few times over - And the recipe is fairly open to customization
And seriously, you feel GREAT after you eat them... Like you ate a good meal that was good for you!

Thanks for the recipe, doesn't look too hard.
Even though I'm still living at home, I like feeling independent so a lot of the foods I eat are purchased by myself. What I usually have...
- Frozen Pizzas
- Canned Chili + Shredded Cheese (Sometimes on a Hoagie Roll)
- Shredded Cheese or Peanut Butter on a Tortilla (snack)
- Yogurt
- Quaker Instant Oatmeal
- Red Rose Black Tea
- Eggs
- Chef Boyardee Ravioli
- Spaghetti-O's
- My version of Subway's Italian BMT (Hoagie roll, Pepperoni, Ham, Salami, Pepper Jack Cheese, Red Wine Vinaigrette Dressing)
- Cereal
- Sloppy Joes (fucking win)
All fairly cheap.
