Beatport quirk

ok so every time i try and search for an artist that beatport doesn't know, it comes up with trentemoller under similar searches. seriously, i just searched ass******s and beatport sucks and what do i get for a similar search? trentemoller.

now dont get me wrong, everything he touches blows up, but WTF? anybody else run into this, or maybe with another artist?

Posted by Stu Cox on Dec-05-2006 21:46:

Yup I've had exactly the same (coming up with Trentemoller as a similar search on words that are absolutely nothing like "Trentemoller")

Posted by epdarks on Dec-05-2006 22:32:

Same here.

Yeah that happens.

I really dont like the new beatport. I hate how now you have to click the releases individually, before it was just all listed when you clicked "look at all releases". Made things so much easier and faster. I hate clicking all these damn release images just to listen to it.

Thats why I use Audiojelly. I have been having alot of problems with Beatport too. And with Audiojelly you don't have to deal with those area restrictions either. I say fck Beatport.

You do realize when you click on an artist and it's displaying by releases you can click the option on the left in the 'search' box that says tracks, right? It's annoying that it defaults to releases when searching now, but meh...at least you can change it.

I get the Trentemoller thing too, was just thinking about this the other day as it's the first time I really noticed it happens every time. I like the new version of Beatport over the old one...there are some quirks, but I've found that samples load immediately, rather than before when the player would inexplicably get stuck on some tracks but ones right beneath it would right away. Not only that but the site seems to get stuck loading eternally alot less.

I still hate the 2 minute samples (who shops from Beatport regularly and hasn't been burned by a crap purchase that sounded like it could be decent in the 2 minutes you heard it?), but I dunno...comparing all of the quirks to each of the digital sites I always come back to Beatport if I have a choice. In general the selection is so much better there, and in general it's much easier/quicker to purchase tracks than on other sites in my opinion.

I don't think I've ever found a track on Beatport afflicted by this that I've been able to find on any of the other main digital dl sites that I can grab. The area restrictions aren't Beatport's choice, it's what area the label liscenses the track to be released in afaik.

Here, try this. Try to purchase this track off Beatport- Into The Night 2006-Purple Haze Remix-Puple Haze, 4 Strings. Told me territory restricted, can't buy it.

Now go to Trackitdown.net and try to purchase it. Let me put it in my crate without a single problem.

Hope this helps.

Sorry to whore your thread....

Random Beatport question.

I have a "coupon" for 10 free tracks, i got it at BANG music festival. The URL they told me to use is garbage. The code they told me to type in is garbage. Has anyone sucessfully used one of these things? Bastards.

The Trentmoller thing is clearly a conspiracy, Trentmoller OBVIOUSLY hacked the system to make his name pop up everywhere.

Same for me, I dunno. I'm too lazy to go further and see if it'll let me actually purchase it, but there have been websites I've seen where it'll restrict you from purchasing just prior to check out (ie entering your official address) even though you've logged in and your account says you're in the states. Either way, it's the first I've seen of this case where something's not available on Beatport but available on other sites on the same label. I've seen this occur when one site has a release on one label and a different site on another, but not on the same...

Beatport's done that sort of things a few times here in Denver, however each time the code has worked for me. The only bad thing is it's usually 10 pre determined tracks and they're almost always pretty horrid...

trackitdown does let you add anything to your cart, but when you're checking out it says that the tunes aren't available. IMO that's even more annoying than beatport.
and i'm getting that trentemoller thing in the search too. but one thing i hate about beatport now is that you have to click too fucking much IMO. like if you search for airwave, it first lists every artist/group with the name airwave in it (ok, nothing can be done about that really). then you click on airwave and it gives some gay page with an ugly pic of airwave and a list of the most popular tracks by him! wtf is that all about? then you have to click on view all if you want to see the individual tracks. and if you haven't been browsing for a while you have to click on the tracks link as by default it's showing releases and not tracks.
so there's way too much useless clicking and as the site is flash it's slow too and flash is annoying as fuck in every way. the site is not simple enough for nice browsing. i'm almost certain i'd buy more tracks from there if the site was much better.

You need to play around with the search a little if you cannot find an artist, track, or label that you are looking for. For one, don't try to enter full artist name. Say for example you are searching for 16 Bit Lolita's on Beatport, enter only the word "bit" into the search and it will just narrow it down for you to only artists whose names include word bit. Or if for example you are searching for D-Nox & Beckers, then just enter Beckers into the search. And yeah, it can get a little tricky. Hopefully this helps

Heh, that's a clever PR trick right there

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

Cheers fella, hadn't spotted that!
