Thinking in buying two cd decks

So after having my vinyl decks for more than 2 years I think the next step is to start spinning also with cd's.

The fact is that I don't know which ones are the best or even the prices. so any advice here would be really usefull for me...

Then I have to buy a new mixer, I got a 2 channels mixer so at least I need a 4 channels one. I thought in buying the standard mixer in most of the clubs the Pioneer DJM-600 or 600-S. any experience with this one? another advice?

Then after having the required stuff, what do you cd dj's do?
do you buy the tracks on beatport, juno... or any other music store and then you burn the tracks into a cd format?? or where do you get the cd's?

thanks,

Re: Thinking in buying two cd decks

Read up some more, and do some searches

Your budget for CD decks is the key to us making a suggestion for what you should buy:

- Fairly cheap - The Pioneer CDJ-200 is probably the most recommended deck in the low-mid price range. It's great for mixing on (very accurate), has a few effects built-in.

- Mid-priced - The Pioneer CDJ-800MK2 uses the same style of jog wheel as the more expensive CDJ-1000, and it's a nice player. The Denon DN-S3500 is also in this price range, and is supposedly a decent deck (but some people seem to HATE it, so check it out for yourself).

- High-priced - The Pioneer CDJ-1000MK3 is the king in this category (actually, it's the ONLY CD player priced this high these days). It's definately a great player, but you'll have to ask yourself if the features it offers over the CDJ-800 are really worth it.

As for where to get your music... yes, we basically all download from Beatport and all the other download sites. You won't be able to find much on actual CD's in stores. I always burn my CD's as regular audio cd's. Some of the newer players (all the Pioneers and the Denon I mentioned above) can play MP3 cd's, but I don't recommend it as if you ever play out they probaly won't have the latest CDJ's.

The mixer... well you could keep your 2 channel mixer, and use the phono/line switches to switch back and forth.

If you really want a 4 channel mixer, I wouldn't recommend the DJM-600 at this point. It's rather dated, and there are much better options at this point in time. A few of them:

On the higher end:
- Allen + Heath Xone 92 (this mixer is actually more the industry standard in higher end clubs than the DJM-600 at this point)
- Pioneer DJM-800
- Ecler Nuo-5

Mid-priced:
- Ecler Nuo-4
- Allen + Heath Xone 62 (kinda old nowadays, but still very decent)
- Denon DN-X1500

beatport offers wavs... same quality as CD without the hassle of shipping.

Once again this topic has been covered hundreds of times. Either way, provide us with information on how much you would be willing to spend on cdjs and a mixer and we can lean you in the right direction of what to buy.

if you're really tight on cash, check my older mixers thread. 4 channels, and apprently quality for 300US.

Ryan definetely a great help! thanks

about my budget, I did a big effort buying my two technics Mk-1200 decks and i'm satisfied with the results. Other friends bought a cheaper decks and with the time they had to buy a technics or numark ones.

I don't want to pay 1000 euros for the CDJ-1000 but maybe I'd spend 500 euros for the cdj 800. I've compared the cdj-200 and 800 and I see a big difference.

about the mixer.. that's true, why to spend?... however it's a bit annoying to change all the time the phono/line function.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Pioneer-CDJ800-...1QQcmdZViewItem

This item, with current exchange rates, equates to 470 euros.

In the UK, a US import MK2 can go for as low as about 410 on ebay - brand new.

The 800s aren't really sought after - the 1000s are like gold dust......

are they reliable dealers? alot of stuff on ebay is a con.

they seem reliable but u gotta take into account possible custom charges. which can be 30% of the price of the item in the UK. thats when it becomes more expensive than its worth.

ive been very tempted in the past as imported cdj800 are alot cheaper

i got one on credit and started paying it back but the ****s start charging serious interest when you pay some off. im going to end up paying around 650 for the thing so definately not going down that route when i get my second one.

That pretty much answers that question.

To be fair all you need to do is look at the feedback. Don't rush into anything, and watch a few weeks worth of sales go through before you commit. There's a few people selling US imports in the UK over Ebay. Basically for this you get the model you know and love, but should it go wrong you're in a world of complications trying to get the warranty honoured.

I bit the bullet and decided against getting them via Ebay - I paid a few hundred quid for peace of mind with a UK warranty for a couple of 1000s.

It's all relative. Buy cheap and it's not the same value of deal you'll get if you buy from an authorised reseller.

Nothing for nothing in this world. Unfortunately.

oh yeah defo i just said when you look at the prices its so tempting but i thouht no i prefer to get sumthin i know ill be safe with and from the UK. its just wen u c a cdj800 for like 350 or a djm800 for 700 u get suckered in and wot a saving but if u get sung for customs u pay pay major charges. and like you said if anythin goes wrong its a ballache to get sorted.

if i had the cash to spare id like to see how much of a deal equipment was via importing, but i dont so i think il just stick to things from my own country that i know come with warranties.
